This role focuses on structural components such as main landing gear fittings, aircraft skins, and floor beams, ensuring all work complies with applicable maintenance manuals, FAA regulations, and internal policies and procedures. The position requires strong technical expertise in sheet metal fabrication and repair, the ability to interpret complex technical data and blueprints, and the leadership skills to guide a team safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise a team of approximately five technicians, providing direction, guidance, and support to ensure high-quality and timely completion of aircraft structural work.
  • Research and interpret technical data, maintenance manuals, and FAA regulations to determine appropriate inspection, repair, and replacement procedures for aircraft sheet metal structures.
  • Inspect, repair, and replace aircraft sheet metal structures including main landing gear fittings, aircraft skins, floor beams, and related components in accordance with approved data and regulatory requirements.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and product specifications to determine the proper sequence, methods, and materials for fabricating, assembling, and installing sheet metal products.
  • Plan, lay out, fabricate, assemble, install, and repair sheet metal parts and equipment using knowledge of metallic and nonmetallic materials, machining processes, and layout techniques.
  • Select the appropriate gauge and type of sheet metal, such as stainless steel, steel, or aluminum, as well as nonmetallic materials such as plastics or fiberglass, based on product and repair specifications.
  • Lay out and mark dimensions and reference lines on materials using scribes, dividers, squares, and rulers, applying shop mathematics and layout techniques to develop and trace accurate patterns.
  • Perform drilling, riveting, and other sheet metal repair techniques to modify, repair, or replace structural components on commercial aircraft.
  • Carry out maintenance work on company equipment as needed and support general shop housekeeping to maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Make accurate entries in the Component Removal Log and complete identification tags and repairable/parts routing tags when removing components from aircraft.
  • Ensure all required documentation is completed accurately on routine and non-routine work cards, and that training received is properly recorded and signed on training records.
  • Work on commercial aircraft larger than a CRJ 900, including Boeing and Airbus models, and support aircraft modification and MRO activities as required.
  • Support the B777 Cargo Conversion Program and perform structural work across the property as assigned.
  • Follow all safety procedures and use required protective equipment while working around high noise levels, moving machinery, aircraft fuel tanks, and at unprotected heights.
  • Participate in overtime work on an as-needed basis to meet operational and project deadlines.

Essential Skills

  • 3–5+ years of experience in aircraft structures or sheet metal maintenance, repair, and overhaul.
  • Demonstrated experience with aircraft sheet metal repair, including riveting, drilling, and structural component replacement.
  • Hands-on experience working on commercial aircraft larger than a CRJ 900, with Boeing and Airbus airframes preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches, and product specifications for aircraft structural work.
  • Proficiency in planning, layout, fabrication, assembly, installation, and repair of metallic and nonmetallic sheet metal parts.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience in an MRO (maintenance, repair, and overhaul) or aircraft modification environment.
  • Background working on large commercial aircraft, including wide-body platforms and cargo conversion programs.
  • Familiarity with completing documentation such as Component Removal Logs, identification tags, and repairable/parts routing tags.
