What Will You Be Doing?
Responsible for safely, compliantly and economically returning Frontier Airlines aircraft to service when under an extended Out of Service, critical AOG or Major Damage/Repair event requires oversight at any Frontier station. The Manager, OOS/AOG and Major Repairs acts as Technical Operations leading edge in the field when responding to Out of Service, critical AOG or Major Repair events, both as an advance party assessing the situation onsite and event control coordinator contacting the various necessary work groups, ensuring communication with the MCC and orchestrating the repair/return to service strategy amongst the team. The Manager, OOS/AOG and Major Repairs coordinates all activities with the Director of Regional Line Maintenance (Central) with input from the Director of Maintenance Control and the Vice President of Technical Operations. The manager will also liaise with the Safety Team and Finance team for the purpose of maintaining historical damage data and recouping costs and losses attributed to outside agencies
Essential Functions
- Coordinate with Frontier Airlines organizations within and outside of Technical Operations (such as; ACS, Safety and Security and Flight Operations) to secure the safest, most operationally sound and economical return to service plan for aircraft requiring extended out of service and damage repair beyond the capability of a given provider
- Continuously monitors Out of Service Board to identify significant out of service events and develop return to service (RTS) solutions in concert with the Maintenance Control Center (MCC), Field Maintenance team, Contract Maintenance Provider and/or Class II station management as applicable
- Sources and secures contract maintenance provider for significant OOS/AOG events in the field and at Class II stations as necessary.
- Arrives at subject station ahead of field service team to assess severity of Out of Service (OOS) event to provide advisement to leadership team, develops a return to service strategy and implements recovery plan with the Maintenance Control Center (MCC)
- Ensures parts, manpower, equipment and tooling are procured for the subject event and tracks progress until the resources have arrived.
- Acts as project manager during the Out of Service event and has ultimate authority on site until mission is complete.
- Controls and monitors aircraft under Park/Storage program in concert with the Maintenance Planning Department, Heavy Maintenance group and MCC
- Provides timely reporting to MCC and Technical Operations leadership
- Assigns project leaders amongst the field service team. May assign individual tasks to field service team members
- Has overall responsibility for quality and control of work documents and paperwork including final audit of task cards, Engineering Orders, Engineering Authorizations, Non-Routines, Logbooks, etc.
- Retains invoices, receipts, shipping documentation and digital copy of work documents associated with the event.
- Maintains a database of damages and Out of Service events and makes data available to the Safety and Finance group as needed.
- Meets with Frontier Finance group to enable strategies for recouping losses incurred by damages
- Networks with Planning and Heavy Maintenance groups to enable strategies for corrective action of structural ODM items
- Ensures tooling is returned to the appropriate base station following applicable field service trips
- Ensures all parts associated with a subject field service event are tagged, dispositioned and routed appropriately
- Ensures FMIS transactions are completed prior to aircraft return to service
- Assists Frontier Airlines Emergency Response team during exercises and actual events.
- Ensures effectiveness of contractual requirements, obligation fulfillment by provider and opportunities for savings and revenue recapture. Reports discrepancies to the Operations Manager, Field Maintenance
- Assist in pulling historical documents, retaining invoices and data gathering to aid in recouping loss generated by damage incidents in the field
Other Functions
- May be assigned to Emergency Response Team.
- May be crossed utilized within the Filed Maintenance Operational Performance group as needed
- Has the authority to make operational decisions directly related to aircraft safety and scheduled service
- Has aircraft technical logbook return to service and Airworthiness Release (AWR) authority
- Has the authority to approve over time hours for field service crew on field service events while adhering to regulatory duty times
- Has the authority to obtain tooling, purchase/rent necessary materials and supplies during Out of Service Event
- Has the authority to dismiss field service teammates for justifiable cause
- Has the authority to review approve or reject vendor invoices
- The Manager, OOS/AOG and Major Repairs may delegate their authority to the Field Maintenance Representative with approval from the Manager, Field Maintenance Station Operational Performance and the Director of Regional Line Maintenance (Central)
Qualifications
- FAA-certificated mechanic with Airframe and Powerplant ratings
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 10 years of aircraft related maintenance work
- Minimum 5 years experience in an aircraft maintenance supervisory role
- Airbus heavy maintenance and line maintenance experience including removal and replacements of powerplants, flight controls and landing gear, system troubleshooting and aircraft servicing.
- Minimum 5 years of aircraft structural repair experience at FAA Part 121 or 145 organization
- Familiarity with Engineering Documents, Aircraft Drawings and Wiring Diagrams - essential
- Familiarity with aircraft technical documents such as AMM, IPC, SRM, TSM - essential
- Familiarity with aircraft weight variants, configuration control, modification status - essential
- Exposure to manufacturer technical data such as Maintenance Planning Document (MPD), Service Bulletins (SB), Aircraft Limitation Item (ALI) - essential
- Familiarity with current Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Airworthiness Directives, Advisory Circulars and other regulatory guidance - preferred
- Aircraft weighing and weight and balance procedures experience essential
- Aircraft Induction or Return experience - preferred
- Aircraft Recovery experience - preferred
- Composite repair experienced - preferred
- Borescope experience - preferred
- Non-destructive testing experience in methods Eddy Current (ET), Ultra-Sonic (UT) and Penetrant Testing (PT) - preferred.
- Prior exposure to Human Resources process - preferred
- Prior experience with maintaining department budget requirements, reviewing and approving provider invoices - preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Candidate must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be highly motivated and able to work without supervision. Individual must possess above average leadership and interpersonal skills. Candidate must have strong computer and communication skills and be well versed in Word, Excel, Adobe. Previous experience with Trax is helpful. Candidate must have a strong background in structural repair, troubleshooting and aircraft servicing. Additionally, candidate must have experience with department level budgets and procurement experience.
Equipment Operated
Various ground support equipment such as, towbarless tractors, tugs, beltloaders, forklifts, ground power units, air start carts, boomlifts, etc.
Work Environment
Varied. Employee may work primarily from Headquarters in Denver, Colorado unless deployed into the field. Conditions at subject field could swing from extreme heat to extreme cold and varying forms of precipitation.
Physical Effort
Position requires strenuous physical work. Heavy lifting, pushing or pulling of objects up to 100 pounds occasionally and/or up to 50 pounds frequently.
Supervision Received
Consultant to Management: The incumbent exercises wide latitude in determining objectives and approaches to critical assignments.
Positions Supervised
Position will supervise teams of Frontier Airlines A&P Technicians or Business Partner Technicians throughout a given out of service/aog or major repair event
Salary Range: $100,104 - $132,870
