Our loyalty team manages United MileagePlus®, building travel and lifestyle partnerships that customers can engage with every day, and works with our Star Alliance partners to ensure United can take you anywhere you want to go.

As a Senior Manager – Strategy & Advanced Analytics, you will partner with the Loyalty teams to define and execute advanced analytics initiatives that drive incremental revenue, improve efficiencies and enhance customer experience. You will be working with and managing internal and external partner teams both in the US and off-shore. This role will require strong strategic and data driven thinking to drive business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage the development and implementation of projects that apply advanced analytics, statistical and machine learning techniques to solve critical business problems. Activities involve leveraging big data and the development of mathematical models and analytical tools to provide decision making support for complex technical functions.
  • Engage with partner organizations and other stakeholders to identify business value, drive consensus around project scope, value, delivery timelines, and follow-on work.
  • Manage the work of a team who design and/or implement mathematical models with an orientation to locating opportunity and delivering value. Train, develop, and mentor analysts across the analytics team.
  • Be accountable for deliverables by understanding and balancing the competing demands for project scope, time and quality. Lead status meetings and manage frequent communication to key stakeholders.

NOTE: This position provides a hybrid work arrangement including approximately 50 of the time spent onsite at our Chicago office.

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):
  • Bachelors degree in Operations Research, Statistics, Engineering, Analytics or a related quantitative field
  • 7+ years of relevant experience. At least one year of project leading experience required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
  • Experience in analyzing complex, high volume, high dimensionality data from various sources to identify patterns and relationships
  • Ability to influence business strategy and act as a thought partner and the ability to maintain/develop a pipeline of potential engagements
  • Proven track record of working independently to develop and execute successful analytical strategies to drive business growth.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, growing environment across functions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize activities quickly and effectively

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):
  • M.S., Ph.D. or equivalent in a related quantitative field
  • 5+ years of experience at successive levels of quantitative and analytical fields e.g. IE, OR, Statistics, ML/AI, financial modeling etc.
  • Knowledge/familiarity of using and/or driving work on Big Data ecosystems and database querying languages (one or more of SQL, Python, etc.)
  • Knowledge and/or experience of one or more of: optimization modeling, or statistical modeling, or ML/AI
  • Experience in using visualization tools such as Tableau. Spotfire experience preferred.
  • At least one year in a supervisory role
  • 3+ years of travel or loyalty business experience
