We have partnered with a leading aviation and industrial company near Chicago, IL that is searching for an Accounting Manager. As a key member of the finance team, the Accounting Manager reports to the Controller and is responsible for the management of the day-to-day accounting activities including supervision of the accounting staff, the month-end close process, the preparation of all financial statements, and oversight of the corporate and divisional general ledgers. The Accounting Manager will assist the Controller with higher-level special projects.
This position will report to the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and work from home on Thursdays and Fridays.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Primary owner of all general ledger accounts for multiple divisions; reviews and approves entries made by direct reports and manages the monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations
- Lead the month-end close process for all entities in a timely and accurate manner in conformity with GAAP, including consolidations and intercompany eliminations
- Prepare monthly financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, and cash flows) in a board-ready format
- Ensure that appropriate internal controls are established, documented, and followed related to cash, accounts receivable, fixed assets, accounts payable, accrued expenses, and capital accounts
- Oversee the vendor acceptance process and set up
- Serve as the primary contact with external auditors and lead the annual audit while working with the Controller in preparing the annual financial reports
- Supervise and mentor direct reports; foster a culture of engagement, accountability
- Assist Controller and other senior leaders with special projects
- Assist Controller with accounting research/technical accounting transactions
- Find solutions for complicated billing/accounting transactions and work through the required reporting requirements
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Experience supervising, developing, and mentoring multiple people
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; must be able to communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
- Personal integrity and commitment to individual and team accountability
- Detail-oriented and committed to 100% accuracy of all information
- Strong IT skills including an understanding of ERP systems; experience with IT systems upgrades or implementations is a plus
- Experience with operational accounting in a professional service, legal, or consulting company preferred
- Experience in a rapid-growth environment is preferred
- Experience in a high transactional volume business is a plus
