Capacity and Distribution Specialist

Your role

Applications are currently being invited for the position of Capacity & Distribution Specialist in our Strategy & Planning Department. This role sits in the Schedules Planning section of the Strategy and Planning Department.

Aer Lingus currently uses several bespoke systems for schedules planning and distribution. These include the AirSched schedules planning system which is used to plan the Aer Lingus flight schedule, manage its portfolio of airport slots, and feed schedules data to the Astral mainframe. Some of these systems and applications are due for development or replacement to keep up to date with new technology. There are also requirements for new systems and processes to be incorporated into the department, in particular, ongoing development of in-house stand planning capability.

In this dynamic role, the successful candidate will take ownership of the existing software applications used in the Schedules Planning and Distribution area and help plan for future requirements. They will assist the Airport Slots and Stand Planning Specialist with ongoing airport slots management and prepare for and assist at the bi-annual slots conference.

Your responsibilities as a Capacity & Distribution Specialist will include:

  • Prepare the slot submission for the bi-annual slots conference in conjunction with the Slots and Stand Planning Specialist.
  • Be available to attend the slots conference with the Slots and Stand Planning Specialist.
  • Responsible for setting up and maintaining a seasonal slot monitor.
  • Point of contact with the airline OCC to deal with all training and slot-related queries.
  • Work with existing and future vendors to manage the existing systems and look for development or support as necessary.
  • Spec, cost, tender and select new systems in conjunction with IAG.
  • Project Manage the development or replacement of existing systems liaising with the departmental Project Manager and IT department.
  • Responsible for UAT testing for all new development.
  • Identify systems weaknesses in the section and outline requirements.
  • Responsible for creating business cases, PEBs and funding requests for the Schedules Planning and Alliances section of the Strategy and Planning Department.

 

Your qualifications and key criteria

  • Education to a diploma level or equivalent with excellent numerical qualifications or previous experience in airline scheduling, sales, or distribution.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills so problems can be solved, and business solutions can be generated.
  • Ability to plan and respond to a constantly changing environment – shifting priorities/deadlines.
  • Strong cross-functional and coordination abilities, with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships at all levels.
  • Strong systems capabilities: i.e. an ability to learn and work with a wide variety of bespoke applications and tools.
  • Track record in system development and project management.
  • Technical background to work with Information Technology.
  • Ability to write business cases, write design documents and ensure technical documentation includes all business requirements.
  • High level of accuracy, attention to detail and time management.
  • Ability to design creative solutions under challenging timelines.
  • Strong cross-functional and coordination abilities, with the ability to build and maintain positive working relationships at all levels.
  • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and competency to solve problems.
  •  A team player with a can-do attitude.
  • Ability to work unsupervised.
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making ability.
  • Proven interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain positive working relations.
  • Possess a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment while remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Eligible to live and work in the EU.
  • Hold a current unrestricted worldwide passport.
  • Able to pass a strict airport security vetting procedure which includes a 5-year background
    check* or be in possession of a current airside pass for the airport this position is based airside.

Desirable criteria

Familiar with airline scheduling and/or slot systems, Astral or an airline PSS.
Knowledge of the system functionality.
Knowledge of IATA standards.
