High School Diploma or GED
They are required to hold a license issued by t he U.S. Coast Guard.
Minimum US Coast Guard license as Master of Steam and Motor Vessels
of 500 tons (GRT domestic) for NAWC 38 and 100 Ton (GRT domestic) license for Retriever.
The Captain/Master is required to have eight (8) years total of experience
related to their position description with at least 2 years of total experience as
Captain/Master on a vessel that is at least 180 feet long.
The Chief Mate and 2nd mate are required to have four (4) years total of experience related to their position description with at least 2 years of total experience as Chief Mate Certifications and Licenses:
Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS), Vessel Security
Officer (VSO), Medical-First Aid provider, Standards of Training, Certification
and Watchkeeping (STCW)
Security Clearance Secret
