The purpose of this position is to assist the shipping department with plant shipping and receiving operations. Prepare documents, obtain inspection and laboratory reports and other information needed to ship forgings and other materials from the plant. Perform a variety of duties pertaining to the receipt and distribution on incoming items. Keep records of these activities.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Maintain a daily log of shipments, finished good & dispositioned inventory, and various spreadsheets.
  • Extract pertinent information from certified report packing list and prepare tags for forgings to be shipped.
  • Distribute copies of information to the Production Planning Department and other areas as required.
  • Help supervisor make transportation arrangements for shipping.
  • Check department destinations of incoming materials and arrange distribution and delivery.
  • Use data terminal to enter items received, checking for accuracy.
  • Pack and ship items to be returned to vendors for problems such as incorrect size, damage, and over-shipment or for repairs.
  • Prepare paperwork for forgings going into or being taken out of termination.
  • Maintain control of returned forgings.
  • Refer returned forgings and associated information to Facility Supervision.
  • Control flows of material to and from subcontract vendors.
  • Process test material sent to customer including pack, route paperwork, and ship with forgings.
  • Move, transfer, load, and offload material with powered forklift, between operations and onto and off tractor trailers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Training:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Prior Logistics experience required – minimum 2 to 3 years
  • Prior shipping and receiving experience required – minimum 2+ years
  • Familiarity with flow of laboratory and inspection paperwork with shipping, purchasing, and receiving procedures, customers’ shipping instructions, trucking practices, and routes.
  • Ability to use data terminal and read prints for forging identification.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing methods and techniques.
  • Computer skills required
  • Precision Measuring Instruments.
  • Available to travel for training.
  • Communication with customer and government source people.
  • Prior shipping and receiving experience
  • High school diploma required. Associate degree preferred.
  • Prior quality experience preferred.
  • Attention to detail.

Physical requirements:

  • Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment.
  • Must be able to lift 35lbs. when needed.
  • Constantly stand and walk throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to work with and around forklifts and hazardous machinery.
  • Good coordination to operate several controls simultaneously.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Frequently reach with hands and arms; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel material.
  • Constant use hands/fingers to grasp, pinch, pull, feel, or handle and manipulate parts and tools
  • Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes/odors, and hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
  • Frequent repetitive motions.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have completed 90-day introductory period.
  • Must have been in current position for a minimum of six (6) months.
  • Must be in good standing – no written or final level corrective actions.
  • US Citizenship or Permanent Residency is required due to government military contracts.
