Job Summary

As part of the PSM Aerospace Manufacturing Engineering team, the primary responsibilities will be providing technical input for all new make and overhaul products including the generation of production and/or overhaul process routers, work instructions, tooling concepts, material handling devices, packing and shipping requirements, process value stream maps, product cost analysis, supply chain requirements, bill of materials, preliminary inspection and test plans and supporting internal audits to ensure all regulatory and customer quality system requirements are in conformance. In addition, be able to lead or contribute to collaborative team efforts to solve quality, delivery, or cost issues associated with these products. 

Secondary responsibility is to oversee daily workshop activities to ensure all production personnel are trained in accordance with relevant work instructions and monitor and report process performance. This includes working directly with PSM or supplier Quality as required to assist and oversee quality improvement activities. This may include collaboration with the cognizant process engineer(s).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Prepare aerospace commercial and/or military hardware manufacturing and repair technical documents such as process routers, work instructions, in-process inspection and test plans, tooling concepts, BOMs, material handling devices, packing/shipping requirements, and AS9102, SAR, FAR145 or FAIR packages in conjunction with the cognizant Quality Engineer
  • Responsible for Key Product Characteristic (KPC) process performance
  • Participate in all root cause/corrective action activities related to aerospace hardware and processes
  • Responsible for the disposition of all aerospace-specific nonconforming material reports (NCRs), supplier corrective action reports (SCARS), corrective action reports (CARs), and relevant rework or repair processes and inspection and test plans
  • Responsible for the implementation and closure of all customer material review board (MRB) activity
  • Experience with DER repairs  
  • Partner with Aerospace Quality Engineering to ensure all measurement and test equipment (MTEs) are suitable for release to production
  • Support periodic internal audits to ensure continued compliance with all regulatory and customer-specified quality system-related requirements (ISO9001, AS9100, ASQR-01, etc.) 
  • Participate in all continuous improvement activities in conjunction with the cognizant Quality or Process Engineer
  • Coordinate with the Aerospace Quality Engineer and department/process owners in determining the source of quality, cost, or delivery concerns and ensure timely remedial action is taken 
  • Ensure work instructions and procedures are properly understood, carried out, and performed by the production staff
  • Participate in determining the causes of product defects and develop methods for reducing their occurrence 
  • Prepare and report scheduled on-time-delivery and cost analysis for all Aerospace projects
  • Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Engineering or a related field; or at least 8 years of relevant experience. 
  • Complete Specific on-the-job training towards meeting essential duties and work area performance criteria. 
  •  Must complete EHS-assigned regulatory training for the work area as described by PSM’s EHS Training Matrix.

Skills/Experience

  • 8+ years of experience in Manufacturing or Process Engineering discipline in the aerospace industry
  • Prior experience working under formal environments such as ISO 9001, AS9100, ASQR-01, NADCAP, or FAR145
  • Must be able to interpret blueprints and have a working knowledge of GD&T  
  • Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret common technical publications, reports, and other documents related to Quality or Engineering disciplines
  • Must be a detailed oriented, high-energy, self-starter with the ability to drive the successful completion of complex projects within aggressive time frames
  • Must have the flexibility to function comfortably in all inspection and technical aspects of the manufacturing/overhaul process
  • Strong communication, decision-making, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated knowledge of lean manufacturing principles, process control, Six Sigma (or similar methodology), and have been responsible or part of teams tasked with improving product quality. 
  • Knowledge of other aspects of aerospace component manufacturing, such as NDT, machining, welding, heat treating, braze, forming, or assembly.
  • Ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
