HybridCollins Aerospace Vision and Sensor Systems, HUD Systems department is seeking a talented Associate Director, Systems Engineering to lead and execute HUD Systems product design and department support activities as a subject matter expert and individual contributor. You will support existing certified HUD systems in both the commercial and military domain, as well actively working several major upgrade activities while preparing for the next generation HUD system development opportunity. You will communicate and coordinate within the Collins Aerospace global engineering organization in addition to supporting our program (value stream) organization. In addition, you will be required to closely collaborate with our Operations, Quality and Supply Chain teams to ensure products can be efficiently produced in our factories.
The Systems Engineer will be responsible for the system development and certification process for the HUD Systems business. You will be accountable for team execution to Collins processes and passing of reviews. This is an individual contributor leadership role where you will shape the future of system integration practices and HUD systems design, ensuring that our solutions not only meet but exceed customer expectations in both the present and future environments. By leveraging current best practices, you’ll refine people, processes, and tools to optimize performance, streamline development cycles, and guarantee high-quality, reliable products for our diverse customer base.
What You Will Do
Advance our design capabilities (tools, processes and people) to seek leaner and more efficiency to position us for future growth
Provide technical direction and guidance for the design engineering team working in coordination with cross-discipline peers and program customers
Offer specialized technical expertise, as required, for difficult issues
Ensure maximum reusability and scalability of products across platforms by aligning processes and product strategies.
Contribute to reviewing and negotiating customer requirements for responsible products
Drive process and tools across teams through continuous improvement initiatives and engagements with a focus on reducing costs and engineering cycle time while maintaining high standards of quality.
Ensure full implementation of an effective engineering lessons learned, read-across, root cause and corrective/preventative action processes.
Identify, develop, and validate new standardized design methods, tools and documentation approaches ensuring full utilization across the design engineering group, particularly focused on automated solutions.
Drive robust implementation of RLPM, APQP, and Design for X (Cost, Manufacturing, Maintainability, etc.) initiatives throughout the developments.
Evaluate and define future design-related PLM strategies and support of implementation.
Communicate and present technical data to internal and external senior level leadership
Travel up to 15 domestically and internationally when circumstances require it
Qualifications You Must Have
Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 12 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 10 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 16 years of relevant experience

Experience in structural design and/or aerostructure components
Experience leading or managing a team of professionals
Experience and/or knowledge of avionics systems and conceptual design
Experience with hardware and/or supporting operations environments
Direct customer interaction and collaboration experience
Strong background in systems engineering development
Experience with ARP4754, DO-178, DO-254, and DO-160
MS Office experience: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Office 365
Qualifications We Prefer
Degree in Aerospace Engineering
Experience with Head-up Displays and avionics systems, systems engineering and mechanical engineering experience
Ability to oversee delivery of high-quality output in needed timeframes
Self-driven, positive, action-oriented approach to problem solving in team environment
Knowledge of configuration management and the engineering change process
Experience leading or managing a team of professionals internationally
Understanding the process to certify a commercial airline product
Strong understanding of product requirement definition, scope definition, developing system architecture and design, and performing integration and verification across multiple systems.
Leading a development team in an Agile framework
Experience with continuous improvement tools and methodologies: Lean, Six Sigma, ACE or CORE

The salary range for this role is 143,000 USD - 287,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
