Job Summary

Responsible for providing continuing engineering support for Cirrus fleet of SR2X and SF50 aircraft. The primary focus of the A&E Sustaining Engineer is to evaluate, and redesign components and systems based on reliability, cost, weight or safety. Also, support resolving avionics and electrical functional issues. Use analysis, bench and flight testing, along with good design practices to determine the root cause and verify solution. This must be done with compliance of the governing FAA regulations and Cirrus specifications. The A&E Sustaining Engineer must be able to run medium sized projects, coordinating easily with many other areas of the company and outside vendors.

This position will be located in Duluth, MN for 3-6 months for training, then be relocated to Knoxville, TN.

Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions

  • Integration and testing of Avionics and Electrical systems, including:
    • Requirements development and traceability
    • Research and identification of potential solutions to design objectives
    • Detail design and installation
    • Test case development, execution, and troubleshooting on both bench and aircraft
  • Provide engineering technical expertise to review designs of aircraft A&E systems across all Cirrus models.
  • Support the development of design requirements, processes, project plans, and activities required to design and certify aircraft avionics and electrical systems.
  • Generate high quality reports and test plans that will be used to meet FAR Part 23 requirements
  • Review new and existing designs focusing on reliability, maintainability and serviceability improvement aspects.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot electrical issues reports from field aircraft
  • Support the production team in addressing electrical issues on production aircraft
  • Perform peer review of the work of other engineers.
  • Coordinate with interior suppliers.
  • Work both independently and within cross-functional teams.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent) required
  • 5+ years experience with general aviation aircraft/avionics preferred
  • Experience with software development processes and requirements traceability preferred
  • Avionics systems and/or software design, integration, installation, testing and certification experience
  • Experience in aircraft, automotive, or consumer electronics circuit design and integration desired
  • Experience with data acquisition system development and application desired.
  • Experience performing system safety assessments required.
  • FAA certification experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of CAD, PDM/PLM, and collaboration tools. Familiarity with PTC Creo, PTC Windchill PDM, and Atlassian JIRA tools preferred.
  • Ability to communicate technical and program knowledge in a clear, understandable manner. Must have the ability to read, write and speak the English language.
