POSITION PURPOSE

Oversees, leads and ensures the successful delivery of the organizational objectives, responsibilities, processes, and procedures for the Engineering department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Ensures the quality standards set forth in the Engineering Procedures Manual (EPM) and the applicable airlines General Maintenance Manual (GMM) are met and are revised as necessary to ensure the highest level of safety and compliance with the Code of Federal Regulations (CFRs).
  • Ensures the Engineering department provides effective technical support to all Company departments that require assistance.
  • Directs Reliability department to analyze trends, perform reliability analyses, and drive reliability improvement activities to support airline operations, as required.
  • Oversight and support of Company’s approved Reliability Program and MSG 3 requirements    
  • Directs the Companys Maintenance Programs section to, providing timely, clear, and accurate maintenance program documents and managing the Maintenance Program in the airlines maintenance software on behalf of the airline.
  • Fosters positive communications and coordination with Line and Heavy maintenance, Maintenance Control, Quality Assurance, Purchasing, Flight Dispatch, and Station Operations to ensure continuing safe aircraft for scheduled operations.
  • Reviews and approves engineering documentation for clarity, quality, and proper approval basis.
  • Interacts and interfaces with applicable departments to optimize the airline’s Continuous Airworthiness Maintenance Program (CAMP).  Interfaces with Maintenance organization management, outside repair agencies, and support organizations relative to area of responsibilities.
  • Manages the department’s budget.
  • Fosters the Company’s core values and culture throughout the work environment.
  • Screens, interviews and makes recommendations for hiring potential employees.  Coaches and provides leadership, direction, motivation and supervision of direct reports.  Appraises performance, provides performance feedback, takes corrective actions and oversees training and development of staff. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform this job.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree (B.A./B.S.) in Aeronautical Engineering (any discipline) or a related technical field or the equivalent combination of education and experience.  
  • At least 8 years of experience in 14 CFR Part 121 Engineering and/or Technical Service departments. 
  • At least 5 years of supervisory experience. 
  • Requires a thorough understanding and working knowledge of all appropriate maintenance and airworthiness requirements of 14 CFR. (i.e., Parts 1, 21, 23, 25, 43, 45, 47, 65, 91,and 121) and manuals required by 14 CFR Parts 121 and 133. 
  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant license. 

PREFERRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Six Sigma or Lean Processes, certificate.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

REASONING/PROBLEM SOLVING ABILITY

Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.  Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.,) in its most difficult phases.  Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

DECISION MAKING

Makes decisions on long-term objectives, resources and policies.  Has one of the highest levels of decision making authority.  Decisions have the most impact across and outside of organization along with the maximum cost implications to the organization.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and hear.

Able to lift or move up to 10 pounds occasionally. 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

May be required to work in open airplane hangars up to 10 of the time.

Able to work weekends, holidays, night shift, and overtime, as required.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Travel up to 25 of the time, including overnight stays.
