Overview

Our Kaman Precision Products team in Middletown, CT has an opportunity for an Engineer I to join our team. The Engineer I works under the general direction of Engineering Management, and is responsible for the design, analysis and troubleshooting of company products and/or components.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Develop processes to manufacture, assemble, and test, specialized fuzing products and/or components. May involve preparation of drawings; cost estimates, basic design concepts that include repair and evaluation of material discrepancies relative to the final design concept. Develop detailed information for manufacturing process equipment and procurement of the required components for low volume/high value electronics manufacturing.
  • Plan and design manufacturing processes in a production environment. Determine parts and tools needed for manufacturing and testing equipment, to achieve manufacturing goals according to product specifications. Perform a variety of technical data analyses. Select concept designs and perform systems analyses using commercial analytical software.
  • Conduct troubleshooting of daily production problems and work with internal experts to write customized assembly instructions. Provide manufacturing documentation in compliance with company procedures.
  • Document product non-conformances.
  • Collaborate with project teams providing input to the overall design and manufacturing, participating in design reviews, daily production meetings, and assisting in qualification, reliability and product acceptance tests.
  • Participate in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing efforts to improve quality and manufacturing efficiency. This may include design and implementation of tooling and equipment to manufacture and inspect Kaman products. Experience with Solidworks CADD software is a plus.
  • Provide daily support to manufacturing cell with improvements to manufacturing processes and equipment. Assist with the installation and commissioning of new capital equipment with floor plans, safety, quality, scheduling, training, and work instructions. Conduct experiments and collect data to support process improvements. Prepare presentations for submission to team and management and contribute technical reports.
  • Guide and assist technicians, team leads, and operators. Have ability to obtain and maintain security clearance. Ability to work and interface effectively as part of a team. Maintain data records and other pertinent information using MS office suit and other database software. Advanced working knowledge of data processing software is a plus. Research a variety of technical information and historical background data as required.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with internal customers to facilitate problem identification/resolution. Communicate effectively, orally and in writing, on design and/or process concepts throughout a diverse subject matter as well as with company employees at levels.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering is preferred.
  • 1-3 years related experience required, and experience in a directly related field is a plus.
  • Broad knowledge of a technically specialized field of Engineering, with demonstrated problem solving in a manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to implement engineering changes and designs from concept to final hardware. 
  • Working knowledge of MS office suite, including MS Project.
  • Knowledge of standard concepts, practices and procedures within the field of electronics manufacturing, assembly, and testing.
