As a Service Engineer, you will liaison with Customers, OEMs, and Operations to generate and clarify technical requirements for engine maintenance processes and procedures. Additionally, you will coordinate with cross functional teams to solve complex challenges such as diagnosing engine performance issues, analyzing and interpreting test and operational data, resolving component or process non-conformances, and contributing to continuous improvement project initiatives.

  • Recognizes and understands flight/product safety critical parts and processes.
  • Responsible for immediately reporting flight/product safety concerns.
  • Participates in proactive risk analysis of flight/product safety critical parts and processes.
  • Recognizes and understands the Just Culture policy.

Specific Accountabilities

  • Creates engine work scopes and prepares detailed work instructions for operations personnel.
  • Supports operations personnel through interpretation and clarification of overhaul data.
  • Diagnoses and resolves engine performance challenges and/or operational obstacles through troubleshooting and data analysis.
  • Provides written or verbal technical advice for customers; produces reports relating to product serviceability, repair summaries, warranty, failure analysis or product configuration.
  • Generates and justifies changes to overhaul data for continuous improvement of operational procedures. 
  • Collaborates and provides technical support to cross-functional departments including quality, materials, and customer service. 
  • Maintains unit build standards and BOM documentation to support repair and overhaul processes.
  • Leads review of changes to OEM technical data and assists with incorporation into production.
  • Reviews warranty claims and advises management on the disposition of assigned items.
  • Provides technical support during the implementation of new processes; specifies tools and test equipment required; assists in training on the overhaul and test methods.
  • Advises on repair and improvement schemes together with feasibility studies.
  • Responsible for observing all applicable safety requirements and reporting immediately any unsafe practices/conditions.
  • Carries out special projects as assigned.

Technical Requirements

  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Proficiency in database query (SQL) and/or Power BI considered an asset.
  • Strong analytical, teamwork, organizational, decision making, and leadership skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of reliability analysis and/or statistical methods considered an asset.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing methods, shop equipment and machining processes.
  • Working knowledge of precision measuring instruments.
  • Working knowledge of gas turbine engine and/or accessory theory and performance analysis.
  • In jurisdictions governed by a regulatory body or with an association that is governed by local legal requirements, registration is required.
  • University degree in mechanical engineering; or equivalent.
  • Experience in an aerospace or manufacturing environment considered an asset.

Background Information

The typical minimum level of education to perform this job competently is equivalent to completion of a university (bachelor) program in a specialized field of study and work.  The work requires a sound understanding of the underlying theoretical principles and concepts associated with the subject area and an understanding of the relation of these to the responsibilities of the job.  This specialized training is often recognized by a degree and/or professional designation.

Directly/indirectly related work experience representing continuous learning and required for someone to perform this job competently is three to six years.

Ongoing work assignments typically have clearly defined goals, but no (or minimal) direction with respect to what action steps to follow.  The incumbents education, training, and previous experience will help ensure that the goal of the assignment can be clearly defined and understood (even if that means just knowing what relevant questions to ask), but the required/optional approaches to achieving the goal will often remain unclear, undefined and/or untested until the work assignment is well underway.
