Boeing Defense & Space (BDS) is currently looking for a Test and Evaluation Lab Technician (Experienced, Level 3) or (Senior, Level 4) or (Lead, Level 5) to join our team at Starfire Optical Range in Kirtland AFB, NM supporting the Air Force Research Lab in their advancement of Space Domain Awareness capabilities using ground-based telescopes. Starfire Optical Range is a world class research facility with recognized achievements in adaptive optics, enabled by the quality, enthusiasm, and dedication of our entire team. Our team consists of engineers and technicians in all disciplines required to plan, design, integrate, and test complex optical, electronic, laser systems to achieve research objectives.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Assists engineers and senior technicians with efforts such as optical alignment

  • Serve as a crew member for tests, being trained in optics and lasers, telescope operator, camera operator, or atmospheric operator

  • Participates in test design and performs routine procurement, fabrication and assembly of components, test fixtures and test systems

  • Maintains labs to Air Force standards for Precision Measurement Equipment Laboratory (PMEL), HAZMAT, ESD, property, and equipment maintenance

  • Facilitates systems integration, fabrication and modification; supports system pre-test setup, integration, checkout, and post-test tear-down

  • Troubleshoots and recommends resolution of basic laboratory and test-related problems

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  An interim and/or final U.S. Top Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship

  • 3+ years of experience in engineering technician, construction or facilities maintenance disciplines

  • 3+ years of experience working with powered hand tools or equipment

  • 3+ years of experience operating complex computer-based analysis or control systems

  • Willing to work variable shifts; including days, evenings, nights and weekends

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Active Top Secret / Top Secret SCI US Security Clearance, or have completed a Tier 5 (T5), formerly known as a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) by the federal government within the past 5 years

  • Experience with high power lasers

  • 3+ years of experience with optical alignment techniques

  • 3+ years of experience testing and troubleshooting electronics and electrical systems

  • 3+ years of experience with Mechanical Systems

Typical Education & Experience:

(Experienced, Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g., Associate) and typically 3 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g., Bachelor+1 years related work experience, 5 years related work experience, etc.).

(Senior, Level 4)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g., Associate) and typically 6 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g., Bachelor+4 years related work experience, 8 years related work experience, etc.).

(Lead, Level 5)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced education (e.g., Associate) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (e.g. Bachelor+7 years related work experience, 11 years related work experience, etc.).

Relocation:

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

Summary Pay Range (Experienced, Level 3):  $55,250 - $74,750

Summary Pay Range (Senior, Level 4):  $63,750 - $86,250

Summary Pay Range (Senior, Level 5):  $73,100 - $98,900
