We are Boeing Research & Technology (BR&T): Boeings global research and development team creating and implementing innovative technologies that make the impossible possible and enabling the future of aerospace. Our team is responsible for infusing new technologies into the design and production system, as well as ensuring that new designs and our suppliers meet the applicable material and process requirements.

We are looking for a motivated and talented Flight Controls Engineer to join the team in Huntington Beach, CA, supporting X-66 experimental aircraft flight control system design, development, integration, and verification in partnership with NASA.  It is an exciting and challenging opportunity to get in on the ground floor of the joint Boeing/NASA X-66 Sustainable Flight Demonstrator Program.

We are looking for a broad range of experience, including Associate, Mid-level, or Senior Flight Controls Engineers.

The ideal candidate will have experience in Primary or High Lift (Secondary) flight controls. This role requires technical knowledge of Flight Controls function and system development, and involves integration with other airplane teams such as Aerodynamics Stability and Control, Structures, Loads, Safety, Hydraulic power, etc. Preferred candidates will have demonstrated success in working complex flight controls projects, understanding of overall airplane and interfacing team needs, and a strong aptitude & desire to work with diverse teammates around the world towards a common aviation goal

Position Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will include system architecture development with trade studies, system level requirements development and allocation (including plans to validate and verify), system modeling and performance analysis (timing, accuracy, errors, tolerances, synchronization), system safety analysis (Failure Hazard Analysis, Failures Modes and Effects Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis), functional integration, and system level testing on an Integrated Test Vehicle. Works under general supervision.

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location.

This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required.  “U.S. Person” includes U.S. Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee. 

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 2+ years’ experience with Guidance, Navigation, and Control Engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with Primary or High Lift (Secondary) flight controls
  • Technical knowledge of Flight Controls function and system development with integration airplane teams such as Aerodynamics Stability and Control, Structures, Loads, Safety, Hydraulic power, etc
  • Experience working complex flight controls projects
  • Understanding of overall airplane and interfacing team needs
  • Strong aptitude and desire to work with diverse teammates around the world towards a common aviation goal

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Mid-Level (Level 3):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard

Senior (Level 4):

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years related work experience, Master+7 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary Pay Range Associate Level: $88,400 - $119,600

Summary Pay Range Mid-Level: $108,800 - $147,200

Summary Pay Range Senior Level: $135,150 - $182,850
