Job Description SummaryThe Lead Engineer will be accountable for inspection technology in Evendale and contribute to the overall metrology strategy for the Aviation business. This role involves both quality and technical leadership of the inspection processes within the GE manufacturing facility and associated suppliers. The engineer demonstrates accountability for some functional, business and broad company objectives. This role will support multiple modalities and supply chain shops, working towards increasing operator productivity and decrease component cost.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Execute and provide guidance for the analysis / evaluation of assigned projects that meet business standards, practices and procedures and the product / program requirements
  • Define and develop product processes related to design, analysis, test, materials, manufacture, quality and/or productivity
  • Identify need for technical and program reviews within the organization, lead and participate in the technical reviews with limited guidance from senior engineers
  • Demonstrated ability to monitor and communicate project status, business issues and significant developments as appropriate
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data or programs generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with engineering policies and procedures
  • Formulate and implement plans to achieve technical and program requirements, schedules and contract commitments, develop action plans to anticipate and respond to problems
  • Create inspection programs for CMM’s, bluelight or other inspection technologies for manufacturing, quality and engineering organizations
  • Seek out new inspection technologies to improve throughput and quality of part
  • Develop and promote standardization throughout the supply chain
  • Provide inspection technical support to the shop and industrialization of inspection processes
  • Coordination and implementation of inspection activities
  • Maintain processes and equipment needed to support next generation manufacturing processes

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree (or a minimum of 4 years of experience in manufacturing or engineering). Minimum of 3 years experience in manufacturing or engineering

DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or Computer Science
  • Greenbelt or Blackbelt certification or extensive quality experience
  • Experience in scripting and the use of variables in the creation of programs.
  • Experience in the use of scanning systems to capture component geometry
  • PCDMIS, Polyworks, Calypso, Modus or Camio software programming
  • Strong teamwork skills or experience in a teaming environment
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to guide and influence others
  • In-depth understanding of engineering technology and tools

  • Experience with aviation quality requirements
  • Knowledge of various inspection technologies from Zeiss, Wenzel, LK, Hexagon, GOM, Nikon
  • Advanced knowledge of NX with the ability to open models, navigate, pull data from the models, create drawings, basic modeling and export data for use or equivalent CAD software
  • Strong technical aptitude, including applicable engineering tools, systems and troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding and the application of GD&T
  • Strong PC skills; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Minitab
  • Experience in the off-line development of programs and on-site installation
  • Experience in the inspection of jet engine hardware
