What Will You Be Doing?

As a Cloud Lead Engineer for Frontier Airlines, you will push to improve existing systems and processes, with the creativity to develop innovative solutions to evolving challenges. You will be responsible for the availability and reliability of critical platform services and applications, ensuring they meet the requirements of internal and external users, as well as guarantee they adhere to Frontier security and cloud policies. You will work in partnership with business leaders in building and running sustainable production systems, which can evolve and adapt to changes in a Frontiers business environment.

Essential Functions

  • Lead the Cloud Engineering team to solution Well Architected technology solutions for the Frontier Cloud Platforms working alongside the Development, Data and Analytics, Architecture and SRE Operations teams.
  • Provide leadership and guidance across the Cloud Platform team, acting as a subject matter expert and leading best practice techniques for Azure or other cloud providers.
  • Execution of technology self-service through orchestrated means and the use of Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
  • Create reusable, modular orchestrated code to deploy resources.
  • Implementation of configuration standards supporting Hyper-Converged Architecture.
  • Work with team to implement and manage IaC with Azure DevOps following best practices.
  • Ensure compliance with Multi-Cloud Governance framework.
  • Working with IT Owners to evaluate performance metrics and implement cost savings in Cloud Platforms.
  • Collaborate with team members to accomplish goals and help to build a learning organization.
  • Provide mentorship to junior team members and ensure Governance and standards are being implemented.
  • Identify and automate process and procedures for cloud solutions. (Azure, AWS)

Other Functions

  • Follow deployment guides and company processes used by Cloud Engineering team for production implementations.
  • Implement standard benchmark standards and other security controls as needed.
  • Participate in on-call.
  • Ensures adherence to standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams to implement project objectives, troubles hoot issues and implement best practice solutions.
  • Up to 20 travel
  • Ability to lift to 50lbs unaided.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years experience working within Enterprise IT with Bachelor of Computer Science, or equivalent relevant work experience.
  • Minimum 6 years working in and supporting production hyper-converged cloud environments.
  • Minimum 6 years development experience focused on programmatical automation of infrastructure and cloud services.
  • Minimum 6 years experience in managing or maintaining enterprise IT Infrastructure. (e.g., Servers, Storage, Network, and/or Security)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Expert knowledge of configuration and best practices around Azure resources to include VMs, VNETs, Security Groups, IAM, Key Management, SQL, Cosmos DB, Private Link, Kubernetes, Data Bricks, etc.
  • Advanced knowledge of cloud-native resources and deployment to ensure scalability, resiliency, performance, and reliability.
  • Expert knowledge of cloud native tools and services offered by Azure and other cloud providers.
  • Advanced knowledge of Cloud Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles, best practices, and implementation.
  • Advanced knowledge of Azure AD, APIs, SAML, OAuth, and PIM/PAM solutions.
  • Advanced trouble shooting capabilities of Cloud and Infrastructure Services.
  • Advanced understanding of automation/orchestration tools. (e.g., Azure DevOps, Ansible, or Puppet)
  • Advanced Knowledge of development languages; to include but not limited to Bicep, Terraform, JSON, Python, JavaScript, or YAML.
  • Advanced knowledge in automating and integrating a broad range of systems and services.
  • Advanced understanding of cloud cost management and experience with cloud cost optimization.
  • Measure and optimize system performance of cloud resources.
  • Build effective monitoring, logging, and auditing of IaaS/PaaS cloud environments to ensure a secure and compliant infrastructure.
  • Work with key stakeholders from the organization to provide solutions that meet governance requirements and continue to deliver business needs.
  • Collaborate with team members to accomplish goals and provide mentorship to junior team members.
  • Implement Engineering Designs as per the Frontier Engineering Design process for production implementations.
  • Work with Cloud Operations team members to develop & implement standard automated builds for commonly deployed cloud resources.
  • Evaluate security of current Cloud deployments and implement/automate any needed controls.
  • Create and maintain infrastructure and process documentation.
  • Practical understanding of ITIL V2/V3, and Agile principles and practices. (e.g., KANBAN, SCRUM, or SCRUMBAN)
  • Experience working within a Dev Ops framework using CI/CD pipelines.
  • Knowledge of SQL, Oracle, or NoSQL Database environments.
  • Knowledge of network concepts like DNS, TCP/IP, Routing, Firewalls, etc.
  • Experience managing source code repositories (e.g., GitHub or Azure DevOps) and other CI/CD toolsets.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret complex problems or processes that span multiple business areas.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and understand business requirements and develop alternative solutions.
  • Familiarity with regulatory controls related to PCI/DSS, or SOX is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Tools specifically MS Excel, & Visio.
