Job Description SummaryDowty Propellers is now looking for a Material Review Board (MRB) Engineer to join its team of analysis engineers, with the focus being on supporting composite blade non-conformances.

Reporting to the Engineering Analysis Manager the MRB Engineer will
work under the guidance of experienced stress engineers to review non-conformances and defects, compose dispositions and over time work towards concession signatory for Blade composite concessions. In addition, the MRB Engineer will be responsible for the daily management involved in processing Blades through MRB to ensure the daily throughput is achieved.

Job DescriptionRoles and Responsibilities

  • To review manufacturing non-conformances and provide technical dispositions which ensure the airworthiness of propeller components are not compromised.
  • Work towards achieving concessions approval status for composite blades.
  • Liaise with multiple functions (Design, Stress, Airworthiness, NDT, Operations) in order to co-ordinate the daily throughput of MRB.
  • Support root cause analysis to identify issues that may arise in the manufacturing process that contribute to non-conformances.
  • Monitor and facilitate regular quarantine blade reviews with the aim to reduce the number of blades in quarantine.
  • Support the selection of test blades to be used in justifying acceptance criteria.
  • Comply with industry and company standards, regulations and qualification requirements.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Ideally have good product knowledge specifically around the composite blade manufacturing process, salvage and repair schemes and have a good understanding on how defects can impact the structural integrity of the Blade. 
  • Completed an engineering apprenticeship or achieved HNC in a relevant engineering subject or equivalent.
  • Experience of working with composite components within the aerospace industry.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes and of the methods used to repair to composite components.
  • Excellent communication skills, with strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience and/or an understanding of the principles of Stress analysis and how defects can impact the structural integrity of the propeller blades.
  • An understanding of structural tests used in the certification of Propeller Blades.
