Manufacturing Engineer – Product and Planning

Location: Isle of Wight, Cowes - accommodation and travel allowance provided (subject to location and experience)

Type: 6-12 month contract 

Role Purpose:
We are seeking a skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our Aerospace Manufacturing client in Cowes. In this role, you will be pivotal in driving zero-defect projects by applying your engineering and problem-solving expertise. You will be responsible for developing and implementing robust manufacturing processes related to materials, tooling, part fabrication, and assembly.

Key Responsibilities:

General Responsibilities:

  • Prioritise safety and ensure compliance with clients Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
  • Develop technical solutions to complex problems.
  • Provide technical support for manufacturing process development and production integration.
  • Utilise root cause analysis, preventive and corrective actions to eliminate non-conformances.
  • Foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Implement Lean initiatives to continuously improve production processes.

Role-Specific Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement manufacturing processes from concept to production, ensuring high process capability using client’s Zero Defect Manufacturing (ZDM) tools.
  • Oversee product development, including first article development, configuration changes, and build process definition.

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  • Degree in Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent qualifications (ONC or relevant apprenticeship) in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Expertise in technical problem-solving and the ability to provide input at all levels of work.
  • Experience representing the business in customer and supplier meetings.
  • Proficient in complex and non-routine analysis with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong understanding of business structures, with the ability to explain concepts to diverse audiences and influence key decision-makers.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
  • Willingness to work on both civil and military programs, with the ability to travel as required.
  • Understanding of APQP AS9145 principles and quality system models like ISO9000, AS9100, or D1-9000.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of engineering experience with a background in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Proven track record in continuous improvement, lean management, and delivering projects on time and within budget.
  • Proficient in MS Office and other relevant software tools.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Self-motivated, innovative, and resourceful with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of managing and coordinating customer requirements and interfacing professionally with stakeholders.
  • Candidates should demonstrate equivalent skills in problem-solving and process control.
