Job Description:

Morson are currently looking to recruit an experienced Manufacturing Engineer for our Defence client based in South Wales.

Role Description

  • The role is focused on equipment acquisition, as part of the NGMS contract we have funding to upgrade/renew/replace various pieces of machinery across the site.
  • As such the role will encompass generating/reviewing requirements specifications etc. liaising with equipment manufacturers/suppliers, conducting equipment trials and any other activity related to the procurement of bespoke machinery. Any experience in this would be beneficial.
  • Responsible to the NGMS Lead Plant & Equipment Engineer for the management & organisation of the site manufacturing plant and equipment investment for the NGMS Project requirements, including the development, maintenance and delivery of legally compliant business cases pertaining to site plant and equipment
  • Including but not limited to the preparation and control/issue of technical requirements specifications, scopes of work, evaluation of tender returns and contract placements for outsourced works.
  • Generation and evaluation of work packet related Risk Assessments, Method Statements, Permits to Work, Contractor Competency Assessment and Work Control, Competency skill matrix maintenance and personnel development, COSHH Hazard & Risk Assessments.
  • The Maintenance, improvement and replacement of site plant and equipment through the engagement of in-house teams and third party contractors, inclusive of investment case preparations, justifications, contract placement, execution action planning and physical works execution

Core Duties:

  • Ensuring operational capability.
  • Long term reliability of supporting plant and equipment for the site.
  • Compliance to national and international standards and legislation.
    • Good background in process engineering and process optimisation with knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma tools and techniques.
    • Carrying out Risk Assessments of manufacturing processes and equipment.
    • Leading and/or managing process development projects.

Project/risk management and the ability to use associated tools and techniques. 

Knowledge:

  • Demonstrable knowledge in manufacturing in a high hazard environment
    • Experience of high hazard environments; familiar with HAZOP (Hazard And Operability Study), COMAH, DSEAR (Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations), PUWER, SIL (Safety Integrity Levels), MSER and other regulations and standards.
    • IOSH Managing Safety / NEBOSH Certificate.
    • Experience of Contactor Management.
    • Familiarity with the Life Cycle Management (LCM) process

Skills:

  • Written communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate and liaise with other teams.
  • Understand business management framework.
  • Lead and sign off work to meet business case applications.
  • Good leadership and organisational skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills required.
  • Understand operational priorities and liaise with engineering and production management to prioritise tasks.

  • Required to liaise with, and operate within multifunctional teams

HND/HNC is desirable but relevant experience will be considered. The experience MUST be relevant, i.e if you haven’t got an HND but you have specified, procured, installed and commissioned lots of machinery, then you may be considered.

The role will require candidates to secure UK Security Clearance.

Rate will be 33.00 PAYE or 42.90 Umbrella
