Spectrolab, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of The Boeing Company, is seeking a Materials and Process Development Engineer to join our Engineering team. This position is located at our manufacturing facility in Sylmar, California.

The ideal candidate will be multi-faceted, with knowledge and experience in semiconductor materials, processes, devices, and assemblies, along with a strong background in software development with focus on automation, hardware integration, and testing of solar cell assemblies.

Position Responsibilities:

Responsibilities will vary depending on skills and qualifications, and may include, but will not be limited to, the following:

  • Identify, define, and implement new processes to reduce process cycle time, reduce product cost, and/or improve product performance.

  • Identify and execute continuous improvement ideas to reduce process cycle time, reduce product cost, and/or improve product performance.

  • Lead or support projects aimed at developing future solar cell assembly equipment and processes, by leveraging software/programming and hardware integration skills.

  • Provide engineering support for production of solar cell wafers and/or solar cell assemblies. Maintain process control using SPC tools, troubleshoot process anomalies, understand operation of process equipment, and provide timely response to manufacturing issues/needs. Interact closely with teams within the larger Operations group to achieve organizational goals.

  • Embrace and foster a working culture where safety is a top priority.

Our teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate, Experienced, Lead

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, chemistry, physics, mathematics, or computer science.

  • 1 year or more years’ experience in one or more software programming languages

  • 1 or more years’ experience with automation and robotic applications development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience 

  • Understanding of fundamentals of chemistry and physics

  • Work experience in semiconductor (III-V or Si) processing industry

  • Familiarity with solar cell devices and assemblies, material characterization, and analytical techniques used in failure analysis.

  • Experience with photolithography, thin film (metal and dielectric materials) deposition techniques, wet and dry etch processes, and high temperature annealing processes.

  • Familiarity with gated approach to process & product development and Aerospace industry material and qualification requirements

  • Experience in programming with languages such as Python, VBA, LabView, Java, MATLAB, C/C+/C++

  • Experience with database design/development (SQL preferred)

  • Experience in automated equipment programming and troubleshooting

Associate:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Experienced:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., PhD, Master+3 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Lead:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g., Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g., PhD+4 years related work experience, Master+7 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Relocation:

Relocation assistance is not a negotiable benefit for this position. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.

This position is for 1st shift.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range, Associate: $82,450 - $111,550

Summary pay range, Experienced: $102,000 - $138,000

Summary pay range, Lead: $124,950 - $169,050
