OPERATIONS ENGINEER, LAUNCH PADS

Do you want to be part of the team that enables rapid launch and re-use of multiple launch pads? Do you want to help launch satellites, cargo and humans into space? Do you want to be part of the team that helps provide high speed/low latency internet service to the world? As an Operations Engineer, you could do all of these. The SpaceX Launch team is looking for a dedicated individual to support our launch pad operations through data analysis, process optimization, resource alignment, capital planning and trade studies. This individual will need the ability to help with tactical planning to enable fast-paced operations that simultaneously inform long-term, robust launch pad strategies and processes. They must be comfortable working and communicating with many stakeholders across the enterprise as nearly every assignment will be multi-disciplinary. Candidates with an ability to thrive in an ambiguous, dynamic, and fast-paced environments and the ability to multitask and prioritize work during simultaneous projects are required.

Responsibilities:

  • Analyze data and information to identify opportunities to reduce work scope and/or accelerate schedules while working with stakeholders to achieve company goals
  • Develop tools to analyze output, rate capacity, optimization problems for launch and operations to guide decisions
  • Develop tools and provide strategic scheduling expertise to guide efficient resource utilization across the pads
  • Maintain roadmap towards consistent launch pad refurb improvement and a zero refurb pad
  • Develop and track key performance measures, and identify decision points and actions to optimize launch pad operations.
  • Actively develop system and process improvements within and between launch pad teams
  • Capture best practices of launch systems, and manage organizational knowledge and lessons-learned
  • Work as part of a team to develop and manage strategy to mitigate future launch risks and seize emerging opportunities to improve quality, output, safety, and cost
  • Identify operational challenges within the organization, determine root cause, and develop appropriate solutions
Job Requirements:

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline
  • 1+ years' of professional experience in using Excel, SQL, or Python/R for analysis or modeling dynamic systems and / or experience in factory layout software tools such as Visio or Sketchup

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proficiency with statistics, data analysis, cost/benefit analysis, and visualization
  • Experience with CAD software, Power BI, and discrete event modeling tools
  • Experience as an industrial, operations, process or manufacturing engineer in an industrial environment
  • Experience with lean, six sigma, and related production principles
  • Experience or education in management science and engineering, operations engineering, operations research, or industrial engineering
  • Experience as a contributor to multi-disciplinary and cross-functional teams
  • Ability to work in fast-paced, high stress environments
  • Excellent written and communication skills

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed to meet major milestones
  • Must be able to travel - up to 15% work week travel may be required to other sites
  • Ability to pass Air Force background checks for Cape Canaveral and Vandenberg

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Pay range:

Operations Engineer/Level I: $95,000.00 - $115,000.00/per year
Operations Engineer/Level II: $110,000.00 - $130,000.00/per year

Your actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX. You may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of company stock, stock options, or long-term cash awards, as well as potential discretionary bonuses and the ability to purchase additional stock at a discount through an Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
