The P-8 Training Systems team in Global Training Engineering (GTE) is currently seeking a Real-Time Software Engineer to join their team in Jacksonville, FL.  Are you interested in learning about this cutting-edge aircraft platform while supporting the development of key training assets for the United States and our allies? If so, the P8 Training System Software team has an opportunity for you!

P-8 Training Systems is responsible for designing, developing, building and delivering flight training solutions to the warfighter. The flight simulators developed are not off the shelf video games but are high fidelity, tech heavy, fully immersive training machines that allow the warfighter to maintain their mission readiness in their pursuit to defend freedom around the world.  The P-8 Poseidon is the anti-surface/submarine warfare aircraft of the future built on a commercial derivative airframe and outfitted to protect the waterways of the world.

Software is an integral part of each of these products and these products are integral parts of the defense of multiple nations. If you come to work with us you will be responsible for full life-cycle software development which means you will have a hand in defining the requirements; designing, implementing and testing the software; and supporting these products through delivery and in the field.

The selected applicant will be a member of a high performing, collaborative team and must be self-motivated with a strong work ethic, excellent time-management, and interpersonal skills. These teams use Agile methodologies to support all aspects of product development, including project management.

The applicant will be encouraged to actively help the team to continuously improve and develop innovative and creative solutions to products and processes.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop P-8 vehicle simulation trainer software in an agile software development environment
  • Integrate and test both object-oriented software designs and non-object-oriented designs as appropriate to the feature being developed
  • Work closely with Systems Engineering, Test, and Integration teams to translate high level system and software requirements into low level software requirements
  • Clearly communicate technical information and issues to other engineers and to management
  • Understand and work within the boundaries of budget and schedule demands
  • Participate in process, design, and implementation peer reviews and provide constructive feedback to drive high quality deliverable software
  • Listen and support teams in problem identification, root cause analysis, and decision making
  • Have the ability to work collaboratively with multiple support teams to identify and resolve issues

This position is hybrid. This means that the selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements: 

This position requires the ability to obtain an active U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.)  An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Coding Challenge:

To be considered for this position you will be required to complete a technical assessment as part of the selection process.  Failure to complete the assessment will remove you from consideration.


Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science (or greater) from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistry, or other technical degree
  • 5&43; years of professional Software Development experience
  • 5&43; years of experience with C&43;&43; or Java
  • 1&43; years of experience developing and troubleshooting real-time and / or near real-time software
  • Prior experience with Linux and Windows development
  • Demonstrated Objected-Oriented Programming experience

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Tactical communication networks simulation, programming, and services
  • Experience working in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in the Aerospace Industry
  • Experience working within the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) or other agile development experience
  • Product Owner and/or Scrum Master experience
  • Automated testing, and/or continuous integration
  • Experience working with real-time operating systems and developing real-time software.
  • Experience mentoring and / or leading small groups of engineers to collaborative build software components.

Typical Education & Experience:


Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and

experience

Relocation:
This position offers relocation based on candidate eligibility.

Travel:  Up to 15.
