Primary Function: Responsible for determining operations to produce product and develop processes to ensure quality, cost, increase productivity, and reduce cycle time, and scrap.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Process Control

  • Writes work instructions, procedures and techniques.
  • Review and implementation of customer supplied drawings and specification flow down.
  • Analyzes problems and develops solutions with minor technical direction.
  • Designs fixturing for self-identified operation improvements.
  • Update and review KPIV control charts, control limits.
  • Reviews changes of incoming raw materials and evaluates for potential process impact.
  • Review, monitor and improve tooling/equipment.
  • Designs new tooling for process improvements with additional Engineering support.
  • Collects, processes, mines, and interprets data and implements improvements based on analysis.
  • Designs and oversees process experiments to determine the causes of defects and improve process methods and raw materials.
  • Supports junior Engineers

Reduce Variability (Continuous Improvement)

  • Improves measurements and capabilities for raw materials, input variables, process yields, and response variable using statistical process control (SPC) and never-ending improvement (NEI) methods. Focuses on key department metrics such as scrap, rework, and process yield.
  • Improves the use and integration of SPC tools and techniques to improve process predictability.
  • Conducts gauge repeatability and reproducibility studies to correct gauge error greater than 30.
  • Discusses and improves design issues, procedures, and techniques with departmental supervisor and product engineer.
  • Reviews and controls process parameters.
  • Reviews, designs and implements part set-ups/gating design to eliminate variability.
  • Identifies and addresses safety considerations within the scope of the job/area responsibilities. Specifies and justifies major equipment purchases and building modifications.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 5 years of training or experience or equivalent.
  • Able to work in a production environment.
  • Able to read and comprehend English.
  • Able to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Able to apply concepts of fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 10 lbs. frequently.
  • Able to lift and carry up to 35 lbs. occasionally.
  • Able to communicate effectively with co-workers and customers.
  • Able to effectively present information to management and customers.
  • Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Able to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Vision expectation is Jaeger J1 in one eye, at no less than 12 inches: or equivalent, or Jaeger J2 in one eye, at no less than 16 inches.
  • Able to use Microsoft Office applications.
  • Complies with company and departmental policies and procedures, including company’s attendance policy.

Desired Competencies:

  • Blueprint & CMM inspection data interpretation
  • Broad knowledge of mechanical, industrial, and materials science engineering
  • 3-5 years experience with investment casting technology

Normal Working Conditions

  • Works under general direction and infrequent supervision, planning details of procedure and methods to attain definite objectives. Makes decisions within broad limitations of policies and within accepted standards.
  • Occasional work required near moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasional work required in areas with fumes and/or airborne particles.
  • Frequent work required in areas with loud noise.
  • Occasional standing and walking required.
  • Frequent sitting required. Frequent hearing and talking required
