The Boeing Company is seeking Production Asset Engineers to join our Equipment and Tool Engineering team to support the 737 Program of Boeing Commercial Aircrafts. Our production system is constantly reviewed for safety, quality and flow improvements, as well as new technology. Several new engineers are needed to support production system improvements to safely produce quality aircraft parts in a reliable manner, every time.

A successful candidate in this role will have passion, creativity, and an insatiable desire for process improvement and efficiency. They will also have a strong desire to be out in the factory, interacting with mechanics, safety, and equipment services, and directly supporting the production system. In Production Engineering, we need highly responsible professionals committed to upholding the highest standards of safety, quality, and integrity.

Our Teams are currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including Associate, Mid-Level & Senior Production Asset Engineers.

Primary Responsibilities:

This is a production asset development, implementation, and improvement role. Your duties will include (but are not limited to):

  • Develops conceptual designs, cost estimates, and preliminary project schedules based on customer requirements for equipment installations requiring control hardware PLCs, and control/ladder logic development/programming analyzing intended use and desired aesthetics
  • Reviews and approves controls and electrical designs to assess compliance with customer requirements, national and local codes and applicable regulations by applying knowledge of principles, practices, and standard/consistent software design
  • Verifies equipment specifications (materials and software) included in final designs meet requirements
  • Evaluates program and project requirements, develops complex equipment and tooling concepts and designs solutions for the Production System
  • Ensures compliance with safety, producibility, maintainability, reliability, ergonomic factors and regulatory requirements
  • Troubleshoots current production issues related to quality, safety, and repeatability
  • Develops and implements work-arounds and maintains configuration of hardware and documentation
  • Perform studies and make recommendations for aging assets: retro-fit vs. replace
  • Provides engineering solutions for upgrading/repairing controls systems
  • Leads and manages projects involving the acquisition or modification of production equipment
  • Develops and releases bid and purchase specifications for equipment needs from suppliers
  • Appropriately escalates downtime situations to suppliers or management to restore equipment operation
  • Performs controls systems assessments to maintain and improve equipment reliability
  • Recommends hardware and software changes as well as upgrades to existing systems
  • Identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and executes plan to implement improvements
  • Coordinates with affected parties to determine problems and implement solutions
  • Provides technical assistance as needed by internal customers
  • PLC and HMI troubleshooting utilizing Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Fanuc controls, and other leading hardware manufacturers
  • Configures and commissions motor control equipment, such as variable frequency drives, soft starters, and manual motor starters
  • Troubleshoots and tests equipment both at the factory and supplier sites
  • Authors test plans to meet functional requirements of controls and equipment
  • Operates safely and confidently around electrical systems and large industrial machinery
  • Works directly with contractors, vendors, consultants, and end users to meet project requirements and build strong customer relationships
  • Selects hardware to meet project requirements and end user requirements and preferences
  • Collaborates with other members of your Engineering Team, as well as other departments such as fabrication, purchasing, finance, and operations,
  • Promotes strong teamwork and customer service
  • Manages projects by meeting project schedules, quoting change orders, initiating invoices, and meeting client needs

Work Authorization Statement:

The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master, or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics, or chemistr. (ABET is a preferred, although not required, accreditation standard)
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working in an engineering discipline
  • Minimum 1 year of experience with production systems in a manufacturing or engineering capacity

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Mid-Level)
  • 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Senior Level)
  • 3 or more years of working with production equipment
  • 1 or more years leading teams in a technical leadership role
  • Ability to collaborate with both the engineering work force and the mechanics on the factory floor
  • Ability to define, design and plan projects, achieve project deliverables, and optimize the contributions of internal and external resources.
  • Ability to create project schedules to identify overall timeframe for project activities to meet the defined project objectives (to include major milestones)
  • Electro-mechanical and/or mechatronic systems experience
  • Electrical Schematic CAD Experience, AutoCAD Electrical
  • Control system troubleshooting
  • Electrical troubleshooting and diagnostics
  • PLC knowledge (Ladder Logic): Allen Bradley, FANUC, Siemens
  • HMI knowledge: PanelView, FANUC CNC Panel HMI, SIMATIC HMI Panel
  • Familiar with industrial machinery design and related NFPA codes: -70, -79 (and related UL standards for industrial machinery), WAC code

Typical Education/Experience: 

  • Associate Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
  • Experienced Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
  • Senior Level: Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years related work experience, Master+7 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

  • Associate (level 2): $81,600- $110,400
  • Mid-Level (level 3): $96,050- $129,950
  • Senior (level 4): $118,150- $159,850
