Job Description

Key Accountabilities:

  • Ensure system safety is maintained within the ATC surveillance system domain.
  • Assist in system / software/ user requirement gathering, documentation and analysis.
  • Support surveillance team, stakeholders, and other business units related to the administration, development, deployment and testing of CMS, Networks, and Data Processing systems.
  • Assist in creating, reviewing, and execution of test plans, suites, cases, and scripts related to radar sub-systems.
  • Create, analyze, review, and manage system requirements.
  • Monitor evolving technologies and make recommendations for adoption.
  • Participation in key working groups related to CMS, User experience (UX), networking, infrastructure, software development, testing practices, methodologies, and policies.
  • Perform analysis of problem reports and determine root cause, development of work around, recommendations and/or implementation of solutions.
  • Create, develop, test and deploy system solutions.

Job Requirements

Education:

  •  Graduation from a recognized university with a degree in engineering with eligibility for certification as a Professional Engineer in Canada.

Experience:

  • Experience working in the technology space supporting safety or mission critical systems.
  • Experience in the radar or radar CMS systems.
  • Experience working with radar data formats and protocols.
  • Experience in working in a multidisciplinary team of system development professionals with emphasis on analysis, detailed design, user experience (UX), integration, testing, implementation, and configuration control.
  • Experience with XML, SQL, Python, and shell scripting
  • Experience with maintenance, configuration, and setup of operating systems such as Linux and Windows.
  • Experience in configuration and design of network hardware.

Knowledge:

  • Thorough knowledge of modern system development life cycle processes, practices, and techniques, including Scaled Agile and DevOps
  • Knowledge of software and systems development, testing, certification, and deployment, in particular: Real-time data acquisition and processing, Graphics, network communications, file and device I/O, data storage and retrieval, multi-threading, using operating system application interfaces and libraries, modeling/UML, test driven development, automated testing, continuous integration and change / configuration management.
  • Knowledge of industry trends in software and systems technologies
  • Knowledge of agile software development techniques, methodologies, and processes
  • Knowledge in surveillance systems, operations, procedures, technology, and business function in context of the air navigation business

Abilities:

  • Ability to plan, coordinate, conduct, and evaluate proposals related to feasibility studies, design concepts, testing, implementation and life-cycle management of safety critical systems and software for radar systems.
  • Ability to create, document and execute test plans, cases, and scripts for software and system changes.
  • Ability to provide advice, guidance, and opinions related to CMS, network, and infrastructure.
  • Ability to test and debug software, hardware and systems.
  • Ability to develop, evaluate and implement engineering standards and procedures.
  • Ability to write and evaluate specifications, technical reports, proposals, and safety reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

  • This position is based at Ottawa Technical Services Centre but may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement.

Please note: In the event that a qualified candidate is not found at the PIPSC-3 level, a qualified candidate may be considered at PIPSC-2 level. The successful candidate at PIPSC 2 level will be required to participate in a development program with an intent of progressing to the PIPSC-3 Level through qualification at the end of the successful completion of the development program within a specified period. Candidates will be required to indicate, at the initial stage of the selection process, if they are interested in the PIPSC-2 development position. Participants in the development program will be expected to show commitment and satisfactory progress towards demonstrating the competencies associated with the PIPSC-3 level position throughout the development program.
