Your role

Reporting to the Software Engineering Manager, you will be collaborating with key team members including the Technical Project Manager, ICT Security Engineers, Systems Engineers and Operations Engineers.   This role provides the opportunity to lead and support the provisioning and upkeep of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) systems and solutions for the Australian Defense Force (ADF); including ICT support, troubleshooting customer issues in the Software Support System, mobile devices and related technology and equipment.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Facilitating training on the use of the software support system whilst managing process for stakeholders, including facilitating end user communications.
  • Managing applications running on mobile devices, including creating batch files/scripts to automate processes where required.
  • Planning and coordinating the roll-out of software and firmware and security patches to mobile devices and other electronic equipment.
  • Act to ensure compliance to ICT security, promptly reporting incidents and security breaches as well as resolving issues, as you work to drive the formulation and adoption of cybersecurity policies for the organisation.
  • Create/Update relevant ICT standard operating procedures where applicable.
  • Drive the formulation and adoption of cybersecurity policies for the organisation.
  • Conducts Cybersecurity training courses and awareness classes.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional project teams to identify security threats and vulnerabilities, document them, and contribute to risk mitigation efforts in partnership with the development teams.

Essential skills, attributes and experience

  • Knowledge of Windows/Linux/Android operating systems, Virtual Machines, networking technology and protocols, security hardening/management, database management, mobile application/devices, multi-threaded software systems and architecture.
  • Qualifications, Certifications or related prior experience as a Cyber Security tech support and/or Cyber Security Engineer.
  • Strong familiarity with the Commonwealth’s Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF) and relevant Information Security Management (ISM) controls required for the accreditation and recertification of ICT systems will be highly advantageous.
  • Self-motivated and capable to complete duties efficiently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Working understanding of Systems and Software Engineering processes, and product development lifecycles such as Waterfall and Agile.
  • Prior experience working on Australian government and Defence projects.

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of emanation security and its requirements.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in ICT, Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent.
  • Proficient in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures; experience in DevSecOps is advantageous.
  • Software programming and scripting skills such as C/C++/C and Python.
  • Prior experience as a COMSEC custodian.
