Job Description

Essential Functions / Responsibilities:

The development team produces PC-based applications that interface with airborne avionics (e.g. Flight Voice/Data Recorders and Vehicle Health Data Management Systems) to perform product configuration, product maintenance, and on-ground analysis of data collected while airborne. Provide technical leadership for other software and systems engineers in an agile-based development life cycle that also includes broad team responsibilities ranging from bid/proposal to delivery/support. Support definition of each project’s scope of work, and organize the team’s assignments via a task management tool (e.g. JIRA) to define, quantify, and assign each task that comprises the defined scope of each project’s work. Provide a summary of team progress as-needed that is well-organized, quantifiable, and clearly described in an issue/task tracking system. Support and provide a regular assessment of the effort and time the team requires to complete its development and test work, enabling the Engineering Project Manager to assess ability to meet delivery commitments. In addition to leadership tasks, make individual contributions when possible throughout the life cycle, including specification of systems/software requirements, definition of design, implementation of source code, and preparation & execution of tests. Ensure the team documents defects in the problem reporting system and collaborates to reproduce and fix defects. Actively support continuous improvement of software development processes and applications. Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments, both to team members and to leadership. Provide full-stack support of existing applications that use both modern and legacy technologies.
