Purpose of the role:
To provide independent assurance of compliance with all business procedures, maintenance and regulatory standards and to develop processes to minimise quality escapes. To maintain an effective Quality Management System (QMS) across the UK business.  This will include the full scope of problem solving from leading such events, through to interacting with customers, both internally and externally, as well as dealing with technical issues and facilitating improvements.
 

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Undertake planned assurance/compliance activities including the performance process, product and compliance audits on both new product introductions as well as existing capabilities.
  • Perform proactive and regular operational activity surveillance promoting best practice as well as highlighting areas for improvement with a view to minimising the likelihood of quality escapes.
  • Assist the Operations, Engineering and all Support functions regarding the Quality Management System (QMS) and product investigation cycle as deemed necessary by Quality Management with the ultimate aim to minimise the possibility of faulty products reaching the customer, and improving in-house quality measures.
  • Ensure that any planned corrective / preventative actions are implemented within the desired timeframe and they are suitably robust to prevent recurrence of future similar and related quality escapes.
  • Compilation of contract specific Quality Assurance documentation, Quality Management Plans and Procedures, ensuring such comply with Regulatory Authorities, Customer and Third Party requirements.
  • Assisting the Quality Assurance department with the attainment and maintenance of all New Product Introduction (NPI) and existing company approvals.
  • Assist in the management of the Company Non-Conformance Reporting System (Q-Pulse).
  • Support Company process / efficiency improvement events.
  • Influence and support all areas of the business in delivering Customer satisfaction.
  • Able to travel to other locations to assist in regulatory/certification audits when required.
  • Coaching and mentoring less experienced QA associates and auditors.
  • Act as the Deputy to the Operations Quality Manager.
  • Adherence to our Quality Management Systems (QMS), Safety Management Systems (SMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS) and all associated Business Manuals.

  •  Able to identify the underlying processes in use in different areas of the business. 
  • Ability to highlight poor practices and identify/suggest and implement improved methods of operation.

Desirable

  • Use and application of modern quality tools and techniques.
  • Strong computer skills, especially Microsoft Office and Database applications.

Organisational Relationships:

  • This post reports directly to the Quality Manager ‘Operations’.
  • This post is supported by the Quality Manager ‘System’.
  • This post is responsible for other less experienced Quality engineers.

Professional Qualifications/Education and Training:

Essential   

  • HNC or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable evidence of training with regards to Quality Management.
  • Demonstrable evidence of training regarding aerospace regulatory requirements (e.g. EASA/CAA/MAA/ISO/AS)
  • Demonstrable evidence of training regarding Route Cause Corrective Action.
  • Must be familiar with internal and external auditing techniques and preferably be a qualified Lead Auditor/Assessor. 
  • Current Human Factors certification.

Desirable  

  • Aeronautical apprenticeship or equivalent. 
  • Quality professional training and certification.
  • Chartered Quality Practitioner

Experience:

  • Appreciation and understanding of aviation industry Quality Management Systems and Regulatory Authority requirements including but not limited to ISO 9001, AS9100, AS9110, MAOS, DAOS, EASA 145, Parts 21G & J. 
  • Strong ability to motivate, influence, drive compliance and continuous improvement.
  • Good working knowledge of engineering, design, manufacturing and maintenance processes. 
  • Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) experience is desirable.
