Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking a Senior Safety and Airworthiness (SAW) Manager to help lead Platform Systems Engineering as well as Propulsion SAW initiatives from Tukwila, WA; Everett, WA; Ridley Park, PA; or Oklahoma City, OK.

The SAW team provides critical technical expertise in coordinating and interfacing between the Boeing Regulatory Administration & Airworthiness organization and the program applicant in support of certification efforts.  The SAW team’s focus is on effectively showing and finding compliance to applicable airworthiness standards and working across the Boeing Enterprise on command media and tools for the design, development, and certification of BDS projects that reach from seabed to space.  The Senior SAW Manager is responsible for coordinating these efforts across BDS, integrating, and collaborating across the Boeing Enterprise.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads the BDS SAW network in supporting project technical execution.
  • Develops, coordinates, and implements policies and procedures in support of airworthiness certification across all regulatory environments (e.g., FAA, U.S. Department of Defense, International Ministries of Defense/EMAR), with a focus on Military Commercial Derivative Aircraft (MCDA).
  • Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, and partners. Integrates and provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products, and processes.
  • Directly interfaces with the Boeing Enterprise SAW Network, Regulatory Administration & Airworthiness, program leaders, and the S&A Functional Chief Engineer Office.
  • Facilitates development and resolution of certification activities (e.g., certification bases, means of compliance) between applicants and delegated/designated compliance finders.
  • Supports the identification, development, and growth of the BDS Engineering Unit Member, Compliance Verification Engineer, and Independent Airworthiness Reviewer workforce.
  • Responsible for identifying staffing requirements for Design Approval Engineers (DAE) and ensuring quarterly audits of Major/Minor changes in accordance with Boeing processes and procedures.

This position is expected to be onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.  This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.

This position requires the ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship.  An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science.
  • 3+ years of experience as a Manager leading engineering teams.
  • Experience with flight platform systems integration.
  • 3+ years of leading cross-functional and/or project teams.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Previous E-UM/E-UM Advisor, CVE, ODA, SAW or FAA experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Airworthiness Standards used by Civil and Military Aviation Authorities (e.g. US Title 14 CFR Part 25, 29, 33; EASA CS-25; US DoD MIL-HDBK-516; etc.).
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate to both executives and engineers at all levels.
  • 2+ years of experience in a formal engineering management leadership role.
  • Previous experience on or leading an engineering team.
  • Experience with Airplane Integration, Lean, BPSM.
  • Experience with BDS and BCA programs preferred.
  • Foundational background and experience with Safety Management and Regulatory Administration.
  • Able to apply Data Analytics to analyze and assess risk, KPI’s and SPI’s.
  • Strong execution orientation and project management.
  • Ability to work transparently and collaboratively with regulators.
  • Ability to adapt to discoveries and leverage team experiences.
  • Team builder and leadership of cross functional initiatives

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations. 

Summary pay range: $144,500 – $225,400
