Job Description SummaryAt Avio Aero, a GE Aviation Business unit, we’ve been reimagining the power of flight for more than 100 years. We are specialized in the design, production and maintenance of components and systems for both the civil and military aviation.

Directly reporting to the Commodity Leader, as Sourcing Casting Technical Leader you will analyze the market to identify potential eligible sources and opportunities of cost out by optimization of processes and / or design. You will participate to Kaizen events which involve the casting business, and you will be part of the development of new / legacy parts. You will be transversally supporting all casting technologies: investment casting for airfoils and structural and the sand-casting processes with all the related light alloys, steel, and superalloy materials. You will also lead onsite visit / surveys to perform suppliers’ evaluations, to support corrective actions analysis and to review capability and capacity assessment.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Understand the Airfoils and Structural Investment Castings Commodity needs based on Company Strategy

  • Support the market analysis (opportunities, constraints) with a global view, and map suppliers by sub commodities 

  • Keep external focus on Market opportunities evolution (Exhibitions, B2B events, Communities, etc) related to the relevant Castings Commodity 

  • Support meetings with the Supplier’s representatives at Avio Aero, ensuring proper participation of key stakeholders (buyers, strategic sourcing, supplier quality and, other functions representatives, if needed) 

  • In collaboration with Strategic Sourcing build a cross-commodities data base to store all data, plans etc. and make sure that the information are easily accessible. Realize and maintain a robust activities tracking system (Bowler, tracker, MOM, etc.)

  • Build a strong relationship with GE Aerospace Team to collaborate and share opportunities, best practices and lessons learned

  • On site suppliers visits to understand capabilities and support their onboarding and  corrective / improvement actions implementation

  • Collect the needs from the plants and the other functions to support the introduction of dual source or farm out needs for suppliers not included in Avio Aero list

  • Support supplier development team during the new sources’ introduction (material and auxiliaries’ analysis, casting process, metallurgy, dimensional characteristics and development lead times)

  • Support MAE / Engineering decision making about material and processes to be adopted during design phases

  • Work in collaboration with Internal and Supplier Engineering/Quality Teams to support the  improvement of castable parts design

  • Participation to Kaizen events which involve the casting business, at Avio Aero or suppliers premises with the aim to identify process improvements or opportunities of cost out

  • Actively collaborate with the Direct Material Productivity team to generate ideas of cost reduction  by optimization of processes and / or design

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Engineering or Chemistry Bachelors degree from an accredited university or college

  • Competences and expertise acquired in the Airfoils and Investment Castings industry segments, preferable but not limited to the aerospace 

  • Previous experience in Supplier capability evaluation

  • Knowledge of the nickel-cobalt superalloys and steel-based materials

  • Relevant experience in Sourcing, Quality, Manufacturing and/or related field 

  • Italian and English fluent

  • Work Visa and Italian citizenship, according to local regulation, is required

  • Availability to travel as needed to support Business activities

Desired Characteristics

  • Deep knowledge of manufacturing and quality processes

  • Knowledge of the airfoils and investment castings industry commodity and understanding of the Aerospace & Defense markets 

  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills 

  • Ability to work in a matrix organization
