Job Descriptions – Sr Advanced Embedded HW/SW Design Engineer – ATE / Electronic Test (12–18 Years)
Job Summary
We are looking for a Embedded Engineer with 12–18 years of experience in embedded systems design for ATE and aerospace electronic test systems. This role is responsible for leading complex embedded hardware and software development programs covering architecture definition, detailed design, integration, documentation governance, deployment support, MSA readiness, electronic test strategy contribution, and test process compliance for aerospace products. The ideal candidate should have strong depth in controller-based test subsystems, firmware/software architecture, instrumentation-based interfaces, cross-functional leadership capability, and experience in high-reliability development environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of complex embedded hardware and firmware/software subsystems for ATE platforms, including controller boards, interface units, communication backplanes, monitoring and control modules, and embedded supervisory logic.
- Own embedded execution across functional test, structural test, ESS, qualification testing, production testing, and development testing programs.
- Define embedded architecture, partitioning of hardware and software responsibilities, interface concepts, control strategies, communication protocols, diagnostics approach, timing/performance objectives, and build/readiness requirements.
- Drive preparation, review, and approval of requirements, architecture documents, schematics, interface definitions, software design descriptions, verification plans, validation evidence, and release packages.
- Lead board bring-up, firmware/software integration, verification, and troubleshooting of complex embedded subsystems during development, validation, deployment, and sustainment.
- Coordinate with hardware, software, mechanical, quality, manufacturing, supply chain, cybersecurity/IT where applicable, and project engineering teams to ensure complete and robust test system realization.
- Drive technical reviews, code reviews, design reviews, issue resolution forums, risk assessments, and engineering change implementation.
- Oversee deployment readiness, installation support, field issue analysis, sustainment planning, firmware/software update mechanisms, and lessons-learned incorporation.
- Lead or guide MSA activities including data integrity checks, measurement capability support, calibration-aware workflows, GR&R-related data handling, correlation studies, and measurement system performance evaluation.
- Contribute significantly to electronic test strategy by aligning embedded architectures with coverage, scalability, maintainability, test efficiency, traceability, and lifecycle requirements.
- Ensure adherence to test process compliance, embedded engineering governance, release discipline, validation rigor, and aerospace documentation and traceability expectations.
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers in embedded design practices, review preparedness, coding discipline, hardware-software partitioning, and technical problem solving.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical, Embedded Systems, Instrumentation, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
- 12–18 years of relevant experience in embedded HW/SW design engineering, test systems engineering, or aerospace/defense embedded test development.
- Strong experience in managing complex embedded design and integration activities for automated test systems.
- Hands-on exposure to qualification, ESS, structural, functional, development, and production test environments.
- Deep understanding of controller design, communication interfaces, instrumentation integration, firmware/software architecture, traceability, and documentation control.
- Demonstrated experience in leading cross-functional teams, technical reviews, and project execution in controlled environments.
- Good understanding of deployment, sustainment, MSA, and process compliance requirements.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with complex or multi-station automated test platforms and modular embedded architectures.
- Familiarity with aerospace and defense standards, compliance expectations, and high-reliability embedded development practices.
- Strong knowledge of MSA, GR&R, calibration-aware workflows, uncertainty, correlation, and data integrity considerations.
- Understanding of EMI/EMC mitigation, thermal considerations, safety design, recoverability, maintainability, serviceability, operator usability, and secure deployment practices in embedded test systems.
- Exposure to PLM/PDM systems, risk management practices, issue tracking, version control, automated build practices, and change control tools.
- Ability to drive embedded platform standardization, reuse, modular approaches, and process compliance maturity.
