This position is for a detail-oriented and proactive Sr. Principal Quality Engineer to join our supplier quality assurance team in the Vendor Material Disposition Area (VMDA). This role involves ensuring that our purchased inventory meets the highest standards of quality and performance throughout our manufacturing and testing processes. The Quality Engineer/VMDA will collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, inventory, project management, and supply chain teams to uphold the quality assurance standards and regulatory compliance of our suppliers and our purchased inventory. This role is vital to ensuring that our defense products meet the stringent quality requirements necessary for operational success. The qualified applicant must be passionate about quality engineering and committed to excellence in the defense sector. This position is 100 onsite in Baltimore, MD.

What Youll Get To Do:

  • Develop and implement quality assurance business processes and procedures utilizing SAP for the disposition of non-conforming purchased inventory.
  • Work directly with our suppliers to process return authorizations and returns of non-conforming material.
  • Process all inventory transactions associated with the segregation and disposition of non-conforming material and maintenance of inventory integrity.
  • Review, update, and work to disposition and closure of supplier quality notifications originating from receiving inspection and production.
  • Analyze supplier non-conformance data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to discussions on supplier quality-related topics.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in STEM or related field and 8 years of experience in Engineering or Quality Assurance, Mission assurance, or a related engineering role; 6 Years with Masters; 4 Year with PhD
  • Proven experience in supply chain management and supplier quality engineering
  • Experience with ISO9001 or AS9100 Quality Management System and AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAI)
  • Strong demonstrated working knowledge of purchasing, inventory, and quality transactions and reports in SAP
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Familiarity with Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) techniques.
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance
  • US Citizenship required

  • SAP familiarity with Quality Notifications, Production Orders and Purchase Orders.
  • Strong working knowledge of Factory processes and procedures across the entire factory.
  • Working knowledge of inspection tools, methods and techniques used for hardware reviews, validation and inspections.
  • Ability to identify weakness and areas of non-compliance in order to provide
  • Ability to work in and lead cross-functional teams to resolve problems or issues.
  • Data Analytics and Statistical Analysis methods and techniques; Ability to perform quality-related data analysis.
  • Experience using Microsoft Excel, Minitab, Tableau or equivalent tools for statistical analysis.
Salary Range: $115,400 - $173,200
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
