About us:
System Safety and Reliability within the UK works predominantly on the Landing Gear and Fuel systems and supports aircraft level Systems, Manufacturing and Structures Engineering teams. Our team work on all Aircraft and projects throughout the development lifecycle; starting with R&T projects (such as ZEROe and the next generation of Aircraft), to Flight Test campaigns (for novel technologies and new programmes), through to Entry Into Service and a key contributor to supporting the Continued Airworthiness of the full Airbus Aircraft fleet.
We cover 4 keys areas of work which includes:
Functional Safety - which encompasses System Safety Assessment, analysing the Aircraft Systems to identify Failure Modes and assist the Design Office to ensure compliance;
Continued Airworthiness - We provide Safety Assessments for in-service occurrences on all Airbus Commercial Aircrafts for the Fuel & Inerting and Landing Gear Systems;
Particular Risk Analysis (PRA) - We cover two primary PRAs within the UK (Wheel and Tyre Failure and Fuel Tank Safety), both of which have a global Aircraft Impact and are significant overall Aircraft Design Drivers;
Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA) - We inspect new designs and modifications both digitally and physically to ensure compliance to Design and Safety Requirements.
These tasks involve a broad knowledge of system architectures, behaviours and a good understanding of system installation and you will be supported to learn these technical and safety specifics. We are looking for a good systems engineering mindset, a keenness to learn and the willingness to ask questions to aid your development. This will ensure you make the most of this unique and diverse opportunity.
Moreover, our team is a transnational team where there are around 70&43; safety engineers which are based in five separate locations around Europe and accountable for the safety activities (functional and physical) for all Airbus aircraft systems. Furthermore, you will get the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge utilising the extensive training available and the international experts within our team.
What you will be doing:
Primarily, you will be working on A320 and A350 Safety ensuring the highest standard of safety is applied to all new modifications and serial developments of the A320 and A350 families. Additionally, you will be delivering work for our largest and most technologically advanced fleets regarding in-service topics on Landing Gear and Fuel & Inerting systems. You will have the opportunity to take accountability for important safety work whilst remaining in a supportive environment which will allow you to develop and flourish. The fast-paced nature of the in-service work will expose you to a plethora of exciting and challenging topics.
Furthermore, you will be providing safety recommendations and support to the next generation of environmentally friendly aircrafts fueled by SAF and ZEROe. Specifically, you have the opportunity to research Fuel Tank Safety topics, where you will evaluate risks associated with existing designs and subsequently propose mitigation measures to improve the overall safety. To put it succinctly, you can play a key role in supporting the design of the future Fuel systems for Airbus’ Next Generation aircraft.
Therefore, it is expected for you to be able to work in a transnational, vibrant and complex System Safety & Reliability team, where you can take ownership of your tasks in a real and valued role. This will support your development and understanding from a technical perspective, as well as developing the important soft skills to make you a well rounded engineer ready for your career after you graduate from university.
