The Boeing Test & Evaluation (BT&E) organization is seeking a Test Operations & Instrumentation Support Engineer to join our team in Eglin AFB, FL.  BT&E is seeking a candidate with experience working with tactical aircraft and weapons systems to join our high-performance Test and Evaluation team providing technical expertise in support of F-15 aircraft flight test activities on-site at the United Stated Air Force installation at Eglin AFB, FL.  This position will be a hybrid combination of F-15 Flight Test Operations Engineering, Lab Integration Engineering, and Instrumentation System Engineering skills and roles.  The principal focus will involve providing systems and integration engineering expertise relating to electronics, avionics, sensors, weapon/armament systems, and system software upgrades for all variants of F-15 aircraft (F-15C, F-15E, F-15EX, and export versions).  Strong interpersonal communication and teamwork will be necessary to be successful in this role.  An understanding of aircraft Operational Flight Program (OFP) development processes, Agile software development methods, and system problem documentation procedures is highly desired.  Detailed knowledge and prior experience with integrated tactical avionics systems, fighter aircraft flight test methodology, and digital instrumentation/recording systems is also desired.

This position will primarily involve working in the Boeing Avionics and Weapons Integration Lab at Eglin AFB assisting with lab test tasks under the direction of the Boeing lab technical lead.  It will also require occasionally working at an alternate location co-located within the 896th Test Support Squadron (TSS) labs/facility, taking work task directives directly from the USAF Instrumentation Engineering Lead, and working side-by-side with USAF personnel.

BT&E is currently hiring for a broad range of experience levels including: Associate, and Experienced level Test & Instrumentation Support Engineers.

Position Responsibilities Include:

  • Participate in the creation, planning, coordination, and integration of complex technical systems
  • Able to understand and use wiring schematics, Interface Control Documents, and Technical Order manuals to troubleshoot and integrate instrumentation equipment
  • Able to decode raw Hexadecimal, Binary, and Octal data.
  • Knowledge and understanding of hardware and transportation protocols including RS232 Serial, MIL-STD-1553, Ethernet (IPV-4 layer, MAC Layer, Fiber Layer, and Telemetry Standards (IRIG 106 Chapter 10, 7, and 4 ISO/IEC 13239 High-Level Data Link)
  • Able to use an oscilloscope and data analyzer to determine the health of data transmission lines
  • Participate in aircraft instrumentation modification planning, scheduling, phasing, sequencing and engineering oversight of system installations and upgrades
  • Participate in test requirements planning
  • Aircraft instrumentation configuration records keeping in support of pre-test planning and post-test documentation
  • Review and make inputs to test programming planning documents
  • Provide real-time technical support during test flights from a ground control facility
  • Write various technical results reports
  • Perform on-aircraft instrumentation and systems checkouts
  • Perform on-aircraft troubleshooting of instrumentation system issues
  • Work outside in all types of weather conditions will be required
  • Attend and participate in Program meetings (ITT, PMR, TPWG; Road Map, Platform Reviews, etc.)
  • Attend and participate in flight test review boards (CCB, ATR/SB, HRB, FTRR, etc.)

This position is expected to be 100 onsite.  The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

This position requires the ability to obtain a US Security Clearance for which the US Government requires US Citizenship.  An interim and/or final U.S. Secret Clearance Post-Start is required.

This position requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science  
  • 1+ years of experience with systems development

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • 3 or more years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with aircraft instrumentation systems, data systems design and acquisition
  • Master’s or Doctorate of Science degree

Typical Education/Experience:

Associate (Level 2)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 2 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. Master). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Experienced (Level 3)

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 5 or more years related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD, Master+3 years related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.

Pay is based upon candidate experience and qualifications, as well as market and business considerations.  

Summary pay range for associate level: $79,900 – $108,100

Summary pay range for experienced level: $96,050 – $129,950
