PURPOSE:
The Tooling Engineer will have ownership of the wax injection tool building process from concept to full and sustainable production. The Tooling Engineer is the project owner and coordinates with all technical resources required to successfully build on time, high quality tooling. The Tooling Engineer works with the Engineering Team in accordance with all PCC Structurals procedures and customer specifications.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Oversee all aspects of Tooling including project management, status, design approval, etc
Produce tooling build instructions that meet all industry and well as PCC specific standards. This will include coordinating specific needs between supplier and internal engineers. Ultimately overseeing the receipt of tooling to ensure those standards are met.
Work to advance customer service business philosophy by maintaining very close contact with customers, planners, core vendors, tool vendors, and schedulers; internally and externally to ensure compliance with customer requirements.
Track and manage all activities for new and replacement tools for all accounts. Coordination required with the customer, vendor, internal tool shop, and product engineering
Primary contact for all tooling and gauging (pattern, core, sprue, etc.), including receipt & control of customer models, quotations, vendor selection, & POs.
Organizes and maintains tooling records and coordinates customer owned tooling inventories
Provides technical support for Product & Quality Engineers, Sales, and Manufacturing in identifying and resolving tooling and/or dimensional issues including wax/metal dimensional correlations, repair, and scrap opportunities.
Responsible for performance to milestones which will support customer commitments within quoted costs.
Coordinate design, build and source inspection of all new and reworked gages and fixtures at outside vendors.
May be assigned to special cost reduction initiatives as part of a multi-discipline team.
SPECIAL SKILLS:
Ability to operate injection tooling and injection presses for testing and quality inspections.
REPORTING RELATIONS:
This position reports to the Engineer Manager.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
3+ years’ experience in Engineering or Operations, preferably in an investment casting environment.
Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in engineering.
Significant project management experience is highly desired.
High level of competence in SolidWorks (preferred), Unigraphics/NX.
Familiarity with gage concepts.
Experience using the following inspection equipment is helpful: surface plate, height stand, indicators, optical comparator.
Knowledge of casting blueprint GD&T and interpretation of complex drawings.
Mechanically inclined.
Maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that gets along with customers, clients, co-workers, and supervisors.
Must have demonstrated ability to work with cross functional technical resources.
Must have good understanding of data processing, MS Excel.
