About the Company

Island Coastal Aviation Inc. is a flight training, charter and scenic tour business at the Pitt Meadows Airport. It was established by President Tom Drybrough in 2007. Tom received his Pilot’s License in 1978 from Bob Gilmour of Meadows Aero in Pitt Meadows, BC, flying the famous “tail wheel bush pilot trainer”, the “Fleet Canuck”. Since then, he has acquired several thousand hours of flying both fixed wing aircraft and helicopters and has worked as an Operations Manager, Chief Pilot, Charter Pilot, PPL and CPL Instructor, Floatplane Pilot, Mountain/Bush and Floatplane Instructor. Tom brings over 40 years of BC Coastal mountain flying experience to the business. After spending 5 years in the Whistler area, he has gained a broad knowledge of tourism through his experience operating charter ops, fire patrols, mountain flying instruction, float instruction and scenic flights in both fixed wing and helicopters. Island Coastal Aviation Inc. specializes in pilot training, including Private and Commercial courses, and offers 7-hour Seaplane Ratings, 15 hour Proficiency courses and 50 hour Professional Seaplane and Mountain & Bush Pilot courses. We also offer a highly demanded "West Coast Bush Pilot" flying course on wheels, including an exclusive beach landing check out. Island Coastal Aviation is committed to providing the best possible instruction to people seeking either a career in aviation or just flying for recreational purposes. While students are taught the fundamentals of aviation, they are also taught other aspects of the business, including customer service and a code of ethics. Island Coastal Aviation is in a unique position to offer employment to commercial graduates in either their charter division or flight instruction. Our current fleet includes Cessna 172’s on floats and wheels, a Cessna 152 on wheels, and has plans to add additional aircraft as needed. All aircraft are maintained to Transport Canada’s commercial safety standards and are used for fire patrols and wildlife telemetry as well as charters, sightseeing and flight training.
