Job Description:

This position is responsible for all aircraft inspection, maintenance, preventive maintenance, repair, overhaul, and components or accessories airworthiness and quality within the designated shop.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Execute complex structural repairs and modifications, including Major Alterations and Major Repairs and installation of STCs.
  • Evaluate functional design and assess structural impacts to aircraft, weight and balance, aerodynamics, and overall systems integration.
  • Assess structural damage and develop repair solutions that maintain airworthiness and structural integrity.
  • Work with engineering teams to incorporate design concepts into field level and production maintenance.
  • Provide technical guidance and oversight on structural installations and modifications.
  • Interpret and analyze complex engineering drawings, technical data, and design specifications to ensure accurate structural implementation and compliance with FAA and regulatory standards.
  • Ensure all structural work meets quality, safety, and documentation standards, including conformity to engineering orders and maintenance manuals.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert on aircraft structural systems, supporting troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and corrective action development.
  • Mentor and provide technical leadership to junior technicians and mechanics, elevating structural competency across the team.
  • Work with leadership team to develop accurate timeline, material, and labor quote estimates.
  • Document all work on the aircraft and ensure that the aircraft records are complete.
  • Authorized to sign off on work performed by others, clear safety of flight conditions and return the aircraft to service.

Additional Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • May coordinate work of subordinate mechanics.
  • May be required to fly on aircraft.
  • Responsible for the approval of work performed on the assigned aircraft.
  • Maintain the set of tools to do the job required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation, and adjustment of a variety of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies.
  • Skill in the use of standard and specialized tools and test equipment of the trade including fixtures, templates, scales and test stands.
  • Skill in reading and understanding data, engineer drawings, hardware specifications and material specifications.
  • Skill in interpreting and applying written technical guidelines.
  • Skill in the use of computers to research technical data.
  • Ability to work respectfully in a team environment toward a common goal.
  • Ability to think analytically and be a problem solver.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Understand and practice safety procedures to prevent personal injury or damage to equipment.

Required Qualifications:

Any combination equivalent to the following would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities needed to qualify.

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent Certificate.
  • FAA Certified Airframe Mechanic. (14CFR 65)
  • U.S. DOT Medical or ability to obtain DOT Medical (not applicable in all shops).

Desired Qualifications:

  • Previous extensive aircraft structural maintenance, repair, and modifications. experience in the aviation industry.
  • Advanced ability to interpret engineering drawings, structural repair manuals (SRM), and approved technical data.
  • Demonstrated experience executing or overseeing complex modifications and major repairs.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
  • GA maintenance experience preferred.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Work assignments require moderate to strenuous effort. Workers must climb, bend, stoop, crawl, and stand for prolonged periods on concrete or metal surfaces. Frequently lift parts and equipment that weigh up to twenty-five pounds. Occasionally lift and carry items that weigh about fifty pounds. Heavier weights may be lifted with mechanical lifting devices or assistance from other workers.
  • Work is performed in hangar areas, outdoors, and in hazardous noise areas. Workers are exposed to extremes in heat, cold, and inclement weather. Work can occur in confined spaces and in awkward positions.
  • Dirt, dust, grease, and aircraft fluids are common in the workplace.
  • Extended periods of travel may be required.
