Job Description:
  • Repairs fabric and rubber components, including protective clothing, thermal radiation barriers, flotation equipment, and various parachutes.
  • Evaluates problems and determine the feasibility of repair or replacement related to inspecting and repairing fabric, rubber equipment, and parachutes.
  • Evaluates work orders for fabrication of authorized items.
  • Installs and removes aircraft-installed AFE.
  • Uses various types of test equipment such as altimeters, oxygen testers, leakage testers, radio testers, and other types of testers to conduct reliability testing on AFE and ACDE.
  • Maintains inspection and accountability documentation on AFE issued to aircrews or preposition on aircraft.
  • Perform Flightline functions including AFE preflight and post-flight requirements to include guard duties as needed.

  • Document all inspection and maintenance actions in aircraft forms, IMDS, and PERMS.

  • Performs Red X and IPI inspections.

  • Practices good housekeeping, tool control, FOD awareness/prevention, and safety at all times.

  • Applies technical expertise and guidance to solve complex problems by interpreting technical data such as blueprints or manufacturers' manuals.

  • Performs basic helicopter ground handling procedures such as towing, jacking, and refuel/defuel as needed.

  • Operates Ground Support Equipment.

  • Participates in FOD walks.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

Job Requirements:
  • USAF equivalent AFE Formal military training required. 
  • 1 year of recent experience within the last 3 years at the 7 level or equivalent as an AFE Specialist.
  • The AFE Technician must possess knowledge and experience in technical, safety, and environmental issues involving AFE maintenance and AFB Maintenance.
  • Must possess a comprehensive understanding of AFE technical procedures. 

  • Must be proficient in AFE inspection and maintenance procedures, parachute construction, effects on temperature and humidity on parachutes and other fabrics, characteristics of rubberized items, solvent, heat, and pressure effects on rubber,  proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste materials and pyrotechnics, aircrew flight and chemical defense equipment inspections, fitting and maintenance procedures, supply procedures and principles of contamination control.
  • Must be proficient in related technical information, policies, procedures, techniques, and equipment.
  • Extensive knowledge of AFE maintenance procedures troubleshooting,  technical publications, special tools, test equipment, and safety procedures required.

  • Weapons qualification and munitions handling certification are required.

  • Working knowledge of IMDS, FERMS, and other computer programs.

  • Ability to move about both inside aircraft hangar and outside on aircraft ramp within close proximity of running equipment and aircraft.

  • Ability/willingness to fly on military aircraft in the performance of Job requirements.

  • Willing to travel on occasion.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
Salary Range: $34.62-$34.62
Travel: 10%
