Job Description SummaryIn this role you will be part of the Hot structures mechanical design team in Advanced Mechanical Design organization. You will take part in the latest GE product design through technology maturation programs. You will have the opportunity to work and lead projects on different engine modules and design components for product level or for RIG Testing as well as test support. You will work in close cooperation with other global sites and test cells around the world. The role Includes activities linked to technical improvement of existing products and components Impacts departmental operations and responsible for planning/execution. The role has some autonomy but is focused on execution of activities within an operating discipline covered by standard functional practices and procedures. Some judgment may be required but this is typically with guidance.

Job Description

Essential Responsibilities

  • Lead & execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of structural components in the GE’s RISE program using sound mechanical engineering principles and adhering to business standards, design practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
  • Lead aspects of developing in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline for the team members Utilizes in-depth knowledge of a technical discipline and analytical thinking and technical experience to execute policy/strategy.
  • In-depth understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. In-depth understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
  • Uses some level of judgment and has ability to propose different solutions outside set parameters to address more complicated manufacturing processes with technical variety and/or interdependent production cycles. Uses prior experience and analytical thinking to solve complex tasks. Uses multiple internal sources outside of own team & some external sources to arrive at decisions.
  • Acts as a resource for colleagues with less experience. Lead small projects with low risks and resource requirements. Explains information; drives team in coming to a consensus around mechanical design of structural hardware. Conveys performance expectations to the team and handles sensitive issues.
  • Demonstrates domain expertise in the design of combustor structural components and provides technical guidance that influences outcomes to other people supporting moderate complexity projects and/or tasks.
  • H/W ownership of moderate complexity, component, modules in CDN structures.
  • Contributes and drives innovation culture, process improvements and clear thinking in the team.
  • Responsible for project planning activities, including work tasks, project scope, schedule, and budget.

Qualifications/ Requirements

  • B. Tech. / M. Tech. / Ph. D. in Mechanical / Aerospace Engineering or equivalent degree
  • 8+ years of relevant experience on design/analyses of gas turbine components.
  • In-depth understanding of mechanical engineering design & analysis concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to own & deliver on program in time with quality.
  • Strong expertise on FEA packages like ANYS or similar.
  • Understanding of overall product life cycle...TRL and MRL processes, NPI and beyond.
  • Experience in structural hardware design cycle – component function, models, life assessments, materials, manufacturing, testing & production.
  • Strong team player that believes in team success supersedes individual success.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with across multi-disciplinary teams to solve complex problems.
  • Understanding & exposure to CDN / Hot Structures h/w n gas turbines.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
