Classification Description
Loads munitions and explosive and propellant devices on aircraft and inspects, maintains, installs, modifies, and repairs aircraft bomb, rocket, and missile release, launch, suspension, and monitor systems; guns and gun mounts; and related munitions handling, loading, and test equipment under the technical direction of an Armament Mechanic, Armament Mechanic (Senior) or Lead. Examines for visual defects and proper installation of systems components, such as; munitions ejector racks, loading and suspension devices, shackles, rocket pods, pylons, aircraft ammunition and feed chutes. Analyzes malfunctions of munitions launch, release, suspension, and monitor systems, and associated equipment. Required to perform assigned tasks within your work center that directly supports necessary functions of this job classification.
Specialty Qualifications
a. Knowledge. Knowledge of basic electricity and the principles of mechanics, electronics, and pneudraulics applying to munitions launch, release, suspension, fusing, and arming systems; and aircraft gun systems is mandatory. Knowledge of using precision measuring tools and equipment and using and interpreting schematics, and wiring diagrams is mandatory. Knowledge of technical orders and regulations and safety codes and practices is mandatory. Knowledge of concepts of applicable maintenance directives, and the proper handling, use, and disposal of hazardous waste and materials is mandatory. Knowledge of MIS (CAMS/IMDS) and desktop computer operations and use is mandatory. Must have working knowledge of Air Force supply procedures to look up, place orders, receive and maintain parts and materials to complete assigned work.
b. Education. Completion of a basic aircraft armament systems course is mandatory. Completion of high school with courses in mechanics or basic electronics is desirable.
c. Experience. Qualification as an Armament Aircraft Worker is mandatory. A minimum of three years of experience of on aircraft or maintaining and repairing munitions launch and release or aircraft gun systems is mandatory.
Special Certifications and Qualifications required for position
A minimum a minimum four (4) years documented experience, preferably within the last ten (10) years, on F-16 aircraft AME is required. Must have held an Aircraft Armament Systems (2W1X1) Air Force Specialty Code or civilian/sister service equivalent. Must be able to travel. SECRET Security Clearance required.
