ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Aircraft Mechanic (ALL AIRCRAFT)
  • Perform maintenance on aircraft, including mechanical systems, and/or ground support equipment.
  • Repair, inspect and maintain structural, mechanical and electrical elements of the aircraft.  
  • Knowledgeable in the use of and be able to train others in the use of a wide variety of diagnostics devices, computers, hand, and mechanical tools.  
  • Provide oversight and have the ability to direct and train others in the completion of aircraft related maintenance tasks.
  • May include Designated System Inspector (DSI) duties.
  • Troubleshoot systems as required to meet customer needs.
  • Document maintenance as per Quality Assurance (QA) and established regulatory requirements.
  • Perform regular Foreign Object Damage (FOD) walks.
  • Maintain tool control. Report missing, lost, found, or unattended tools to the supervisor. Inventory and inspect tools on a regular basis and replace worn or broken tools.
  • Comply with safety rules and regulations while performing day to day maintenance. Promptly report all accidents, injuries, safety violations, and/or unsafe practices or procedures to supervisor.
  • Use NASA’s automated maintenance data system (NAMIS) to maintain equipment records. Enter in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verify the work was performed satisfactorily.
  • The Aircraft Mechanic may be required to perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
 
Aircraft Mechanic Sheet Metal (ALL AIRCRAFT)
  •  Assembles structural parts and components to meet requirements for preserving structural integrity.
  •  Assesses damage to aircraft structural components
  •  Advises on structural repair, modification, and corrosion protection treatment with respect to original strength, weight, and contour to maintain structural integrity.
  •  Perform maintenance on aircraft, including avionics, mechanical systems, and/or ground support equipment.

  •  Ensures aircraft component balance is maintained. Assembles repairs using special fasteners and adhesives.

  •  Uses metalworking equipment and tools to form, cut, bend, and fasten replacement or repair parts to damaged structures and components.
  •  Knowledgeable in the use of, and be able to train others in the use of a wide variety of computers, hand and mechanical tools.  
  •  Provide oversight and have the ability to direct and train others in the completion of aircraft related maintenance tasks.

Aircraft Mechanic (Corrosion)
  •    Performs aircraft corrosion control to include washing, cleaning, corrosion detection, corrosion removal, metal treatment, and touch up painting.  
  •    Assist in the preparation of the aircraft and/or components for complete repaint.Paints aircraft, and AGE/SE.
  •      Identifies, removes, and treats corrosion using mechanical and chemical procedures. Applies corrosion protective coatings.
  •    Applies aircraft paint schemes and markings. Applies preservative treatments to aircraft, aerospace ground equipment (AGE), and support equipment (SE).
  •    Stores, handles, and disposes of hazardous waste and materials according to environmental standards.
  •    Inspects structures and components and determines operational status. Interprets inspection findings and determines corrective action adequacy.
  •    Posts entries and maintains maintenance and inspection records in NAMIS.  Recommends methods to improve equipment performance and maintenance procedures.
  •    Perform maintenance on aircraft, mechanical systems, and/or ground support equipment.
  •    Repair, inspect and maintain structural, and mechanical elements of the aircraft.  
  •    Knowledgeable in the use of, and be able to train others in the use of a wide variety of hand and mechanical tools.

Aircraft Mechanic Jet Engine
  •    Interprets and implements directives and publications pertaining to maintenance functions, including environmentally safe maintenance practices.
  •    Advises, performs troubleshooting, performs engine health management, and determines repair procedures on aircraft engines.
  •     Diagnoses and repairs malfunctions using technical publications.
  •    Solves maintenance problems by studying drawings, wiring and schematic diagrams, technical instructions, and analyzing operating characteristics of aircraft engines and propellers.
  •    Inspects, certifies, and approves completed maintenance actions.  May be assigned Designated System Inspector Duties (DSI)
  •    Removes, installs, inspects, repairs, and modifies engines, engine modules and components, and propellers and propeller components.
  •    Disassembles and assembles engines and propellers adhering to prescribed procedures.
  •    Prepares engines and propellers for installation, storage, or transportation.
  •    Tests components using bench mockups and test equipment.
  •    Installs and removes engines on test stands, and operates, evaluates, and performs test stand functions on engines.
  •    Accomplishes operator maintenance on test stands.
  •    Inspects and maintains engine ground SE. Operates and performs operator inspections on related SE.
  •    Selects, uses, and cares for special tools, hand tools, and test equipment.
  •    Maintain tool control. Report missing, lost, found, or unattended tools to the supervisor. Inventory and inspect tools on a regular basis and replace worn or broken tools.
  •    Uses and disposes of hazardous waste and materials.
  •    Analyzes, interprets, and recommends maintenance actions based on unscheduled engine removals and engine monitoring system data.  
  •    Recommends forecast actions to the weekly or monthly maintenance schedules.
  •    Use NASA’s automated maintenance data system (NAMIS) to maintain equipment records
  •    The Aircraft Jet Engine Mechanic may be required to perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
 
Aircraft Mechanic – Hydraulics
  •    Identifies and isolates malfunctions, services bleeds, bench checks, rigs, and performs adjustments to aircraft hydraulic components, associated electrical components, power systems, landing gear, nose wheel steering, brakes, flight controls, engine start systems, recovery systems, air induction systems, and canopy systems. Inspects and pressure tests hydraulic hose and tube assemblies.
  •    Drains and flushes hydraulic systems.
  •    Overhauls, repairs, adjusts, aligns, and tests hydraulic system and sub-system components.
  •    Fabricates and bench checks hose assemblies.
  •    Operates and maintains shop equipment.
  •    Uses hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical/electronic principles and fundamentals, technical orders, and schematic diagrams to isolate malfunctions.
  •    Handles, labels, and disposes of hazardous materials and waste according to federal, state and local environmental standards.
  •    Perform maintenance on aircraft, including mechanical systems, and/or ground support equipment.
  •    Repair, inspect and maintain structural, mechanical and electrical elements of the aircraft.  
  •    Knowledgeable in the use of, and be able to train others in the use of a wide variety of diagnostics devices, computers, hand and mechanical tools.

Aircraft Mechanic – Machinist (ELP)
  •    Machine simple to complex parts composed of various mediums such as aluminum, steel, stainless, bronze, etc.  
  •    Parts are to be created per customer requirements, manufacturer’s specifications, blueprints, schematics, etc.
  •    Must ensure the raw material is IAW job routers and tech data.
  •    Ensure safety mechanisms such as guards and shields are on machines and are functional prior to operating machinery  
  •    Use equipment such as drill presses, milling machines or lathes
  •    Use of other hand and power tools applicable to the trade will be required.
  •    May be required to move materials throughout the machine shop either by hand or using lifting assistance equipment
  •    Properly position metal on equipment and ensure measurements are accurate prior to cutting.
  •    Regulates machining by utilizing machine instrumentation knowledge and requirements, setting and adjusting controls to meet production needs
  •    Meet production deadlines by adhering to manufacturing schedule
  •    Perform post manufacturing inspection to ensure quality standards and other specifications have been met.
  •    Interpret and apply MIL-SPEC standards
  •    Perform all duties safely utilizing necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as gloves, goggles, face shields, etc.
  •    Maintains a safe working environment by following all safety procedures and keeping work area clean and free of clutter/debris
  •    Machinist will assist less experienced operators with best machine practices and set up when required.
  •    Troubleshoot machines and tools for operational deficiencies. Perform emergency repairs when required
  •    Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  •    Beginner to intermediate computer skills specifically using Microsoft Office Suite; ability to learn additional computer skills or software programs. Working knowledge of advanced software applications is preferred
  •    Ability to enter data accurately into databases.
  •    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  •    Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  •    Interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively and cooperatively with all levels of management and staff. Will also routinely interact with other crew members
  •    Ability to use general office equipment such as fax, phone, copier, scanner, printers, etc.

  •    Climbs on top of and down from aircraft using aircraft hand/foot holds, capable of lifting up to 25 lbs. overhead, on feet all day, walk up to 2 miles per day.
 
QUALIFICATIONS:
  
Aircraft Mechanic
  •    High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  •    May require a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airplane and/or Powerplant certification or special skills and/or certifications.    
  •    3+ years of aircraft maintenance experience with fixed wing commercial, Government or DOD aircraft required.
  •    Experience supporting a NASA/DoD contract.
  •    Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field required.
  •    Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance
  •    May be required to travel domestically and internationally.
 
Aircraft Mechanic (Gulfstream)
  •    High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  •    Requires a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant certification.  
  •    5+ years of aircraft maintenance experience with fixed wing commercial, Government or DOD aircraft required.  
  •    Requires Gulfstream Aircraft Experience.
  •    Experience supporting a NASA/DoD contract.
  •    Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field required.
  •    Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
  •    Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
 
Aircraft Mechanic Sheet Metal (Gulfstream)
  •    High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  •    Requires a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant certification.  
  •    5+ years of aircraft maintenance experience with fixed wing commercial, Government or DOD aircraft required.  
  •    Prefer Gulfstream Aircraft Experience.
  •    Aircraft structural repair experience required
  •    Experience supporting a NASA/DoD contract.
  •    Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field required.
  •    Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Government Security Clearance.
  •    Must be able to travel domestically and internationally.
 
Aircraft Mechanic (Corrosion)

Aircraft Mechanic Jet Engine

  •    5+ years of aircraft maintenance experience with fixed wing commercial, Government or DOD aircraft required.
  •    Minimum of 5+ years’ experience as a hydraulics technician (teardown, build-up & testing) hydraulic systems components in a back shop environment.  
  •    Minimum of 5+ years’ experience as a hydraulics technician working scheduled, unscheduled and troubleshooting hydraulic malfunctions.  
  •    Experience supporting a NASA/DoD contract.
  •    Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field required.

  •    High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Aircraft Mechanic Machinist (ELP)
  •    5 years’ experience as a machinist
  •     Machinist/Machine Technologist Certificate to include the following disciplines: Print Reading for Machining Trades, Basic Machine Shop, Basic and Advanced Lathed Operations, Precision Tool and Measurement,
  •  Grinders (outside, internal, surface), Welding, Machine Tool Technology
  •    Shall be able to perform physically demanding tasks and lift 50 lb.
  •    Performance of these duties represents a Senior skill level
  •    Knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field required.
  •    Understanding knowledge of Machine tools Manual Lathes & Mills)
  •    Practical knowledge of technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  •    Understand Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance and how it applies to part inspection
  •    Must be able to hold tight tolerances with various metal types
  •    Ability to pass a drug and background screening
  •    Must be able to obtain and maintain a government security clearance
