Position Overview

The Aircrew Survival Flight Equipment Technician II provides Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS) maintenance in direct support of the Department of the Navy’s C-130 and KC-130 aircraft assigned to the Commander Naval Air Forces Reserve (CNAFR). This role supports Organizational (O)-level and select Intermediate (I)-level maintenance activities conducted at the Reserve Aviation Maintenance Center of Excellence (RAMCE) under Fleet Readiness Center Reserve Midwest (FRCRMW).

The Technician II is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, testing, and certification of aircrew survival and flight equipment to ensure aircraft and aircrew readiness during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance events, including Isochronal (ISO) inspections, engine inspections, and Technical Directive (TD) compliance actions. All work is performed in accordance with applicable inspection work decks, Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) requirements, and the Performance Work Statement (PWS).

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform disassembly, inspection, repair, testing, modification, and installation of aircrew survival and flight equipment, including:
    • Helmets and oxygen masks
    • Torso harness assemblies and parachutes
    • Life preservers, life rafts, and survival kits
    • Anti-G suits and chemical/biological protective devices
    • Emergency signaling, survival radios, and locator beacon
  • Conduct operational, functional, and circuit checks on emergency communication and signaling equipment to determine serviceability and airworthiness.
  • Maintain and certify Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS) logbooks and records, ensuring accurate documentation in accordance with NAMP and T/M/S requirements.
  • Support and comply with ALSS-related programs, including:
    • Egress System Checkout Program
    • Aviators Breathing Oxygen (ABO) Program
    • Aircraft Confined Space Program (ACSP)
    • Battery Maintenance Safety
    • Technical Directive (TD) Compliance
  • Inspect, maintain, and certify aircraft egress systems and associated pyrotechnic and explosive devices in accordance with approved technical data and safety procedures.
  • Demonstrate and explain the proper use, operation, and limitations of survival and flight equipment to aircrew and maintenance personnel, as required.
  • Coordinate with Maintenance Control, Quality Assurance, and Supply/Material Control to support aircraft flow, readiness objectives, and workload continuity.
  • Ensure strict adherence to Foreign Object Damage (FOD) prevention, tool control, hazardous material handling, and safety programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Active SECRET security clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience in Aviation Life Support Systems (ALSS) maintenance for military aircraft, preferably C-130 / KC-130 platforms.
  • In-depth knowledge of:
    • Aircraft survival and flight equipment systems
    • Mechanical and electrical repair procedures
    • Pyrotechnic and explosive devices
    • Aircraft egress systems and emergency equipment
  • Ability to:
    • Certify aircraft, ALSS, and egress system logbook and record entries
    • Determine serviceability and airworthiness of survival equipment
    • Interpret and apply technical manuals, work decks, and directives
  • Familiarity with aircraft assigned to the supported unit and the operational characteristics of associated survival and flight equipment.
  • Must meet all qualification and certification requirements applicable to the position per T/M/S instructions and contractor written policies approved by the Government.

Work Schedule

  • Shift 1: Monday–Friday | 0700–1530

Additional Notes

  • The Government will provide all tools necessary to perform assigned technical tasks.
  • The position supports single-aircraft flow operations, with flexibility to support multiple aircraft as workload dictates.
  • All maintenance actions are limited to assigned tasks and shall not alter baseline aircraft configuration unless directed by authorized Government personnel.
