The Aircraft Worker works under journeyman supervision and shall assist in the disassembly, repair, rework, and installation of various systems and components such as wings, control surfaces, control systems, landing gear, arresting gear, fuel cells, instrumentation, and engines

DUTIES

  • Makes repairs to aircraft following orders of higher-grade worker
  • Assists in troubleshooting malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems
  • Removes, cleans, reinstalls, or replaces defective parts, accessories, and components such as worn gaskets, couplings, and fittings, bad actuators, accumulators, gauges, sections of corroded fuel and oil lines.
  • May supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft, makes adjustments and settings such as cable tension and seat movement settings and adjustments
  • Obtains standard parts such as fuel and oil line connections and fittings, cable linkage, and spark plug cables and harnesses by referring to parts manuals and by making comparisons with samples,
  • May perform pre-flight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections
  • May enter in the maintenance records description of the work performed
  • May service engines and aircraft components at line station making repairs, short of overhaul, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
  • Other Duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Prefer experience from military fixed wing community "H- 1, H-53, V-22, AV-8, F/A-18, F-35 "or civilian heavy structure background
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the aviation industry
  • Basic knowledge of aviation theory, maintenance and related hand tools and equipment
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to pass a National Agency background check, which could include a criminal history and credit check for access to Government facilities.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.

  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • May be required to see aircraft in flight, read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
  • Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
