GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Aviation Egress/Ejection Seat Mechanic (AME) troubleshoots malfunctions in ejection seats, aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, auxiliary power unit, and ventilation and heating systems. Performs 728 Day Special Inspections on F/A-18 aircraft

DUTIES:

  • Maintain aircraft ejection seats, aircraft air conditioning systems, canopy systems, canopy jettison/fracturing systems, fire warning/extinguishing systems, OBOGS repair/troubleshooting, aircraft environmental systems maintenance, and aircraft pressurization systems troubleshoot oxygen systems, repair and test oxygen regulators and Liquid Oxygen (LOX) converters removed from the aircraft.
  • Read and interpret manufacturers and service maintenance manuals, service bulletins, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Replace or repair worn or damaged components using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment.
  • Disassemble and inspect parts for wear, warping, or other defects.
  • Repair or replace defective parts and reassembles and installs in aircraft.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories.
  • May specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies.
  • May specialize in engine repair.
  • Perform other qualified duties as required

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a graduate of a military or factory equivalent ejection seat course of instruction.
  • Experience on Martin-Baker ejection seats
  • Must have completed the appropriate T/M/S Navy Skill Specialty Class "C" school for AME or USMC, USCG equivalent.
  • Experience in the fitting and rigging of aircraft canopy, canopy drive and locking mechanisms, both "I" and "0" levels.
  • Minimum of four (4) years experience in relevant aircraft/systems and qualified on ground support equipment applicable to the specialty.
  • Must have a current civilian drivers license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Secret clearance.

  • Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for certain periods throughout the day.

  • Must be able to crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbow/knee and reach above/below shoulders.
  • May be required to lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances.
  • May be required to read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
  • Must be able to see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
  • Must be able to communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
  • Must be able to distinguish color and judge three-dimensional depth.
  • May be required to operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, fork lift, APU, etc.
  • May be required to work in varying temperatures and weather
