The Chief Inspector reports to the Accountable Manager and is responsible for the overall operation of the Inspection Department. In the absence of the Accountable Manager, the Chief Inspector will assume their responsibilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

The Chief Inspectors duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Communicating directly with the customer concerning matters with their aircraft or articles. The Accountable Manager will assume this responsibility in the absence of the Chief Inspector.
  • Assisting, supervising, and directing all personnel assigned to the inspection department.

Ensuring all inspections are properly performed on all completed work and that the proper inspection records, reports, and forms used by the Repair Station are properly executed prior to releasing the product for Return to Service.

  • Ensuring periodic checks are made on all inspection tools and the calibration of precision test equipment used by the Repair Station and mechanics that have their own precision equipment. Further, ensure that a current record of those inspections and test is maintained.
  • Ensuring no defective, unserviceable, or unairworthy parts are installed in any component or articles released by the Repair Station.
  • Submitting Service Difficulty Reports to the FAA of any serious failures, malfunctions, or defects of an article in accordance with 14 CFR § 145.221 or to provide such information to the customer for submittal to the FAA, if that is the customer’s preferred method.
  • Ensuring the proper execution of a maintenance release.
  • Ensuring final acceptance and receiving inspections have been performed of all incoming material, including new parts, supplies, and the airworthiness of articles.
  • Ensuring preliminary, hidden damage, in-progress, and final inspection of all articles processed by the Repair Station and record results as outlined in this manual. Ensures inspections are documented, as applicable, on the work order.
  • Providing continuity of inspection responsibility, assuring completion of required inspection when personnel shift or assignment changes occur.
  • Ensuring rejected and unserviceable parts are handled in such a way as to prevent their reuse as serviceable parts.
  • Ensuring all Inspectors are properly qualified for the positions they hold and that they maintain currency in any required training.
  • Establishing standards for the creation and retention of training records for all Repair Station personnel that perform maintenance, inspection, preventative maintenance, and alteration tasks.
  • Allowing and accommodating FAA personnel to inspect per 14 CFR § 145.223.
  • Verifying that an individual applying for a Repairman Certificate per 14 CFR § 65.101 is an employee of the Repair Station.
  • Auditing of the Repair Station manuals, records, training, tools, and equipment on an annual basis or more often, as required in accordance with Repair Station policies and procedures.
  • Ensuring and enforcing Repair Station personnel adhere to the policies and procedures of the Repair Station Manuals.
  • Ensuring proper tagging and identification of all articles as applicable.
  • Creating and maintaining an Employee File on all Repair Station Employees in accordance with 14 CFR § 145.16, 145.163 & 145.165.
  • Maintaining currency and distribution of all technical data used by the Repair Station.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Current FAA Airframe and Power Plant Mechanic certificate
  • Current FAA Inspection Authorization (Preferred, but not required or have the ability to get within a year).
  • Computer skills to include a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and digital record keeping software).
  • Ability and willingness to gain a thorough knowledge of Customer’s General Maintenance Manual, SOP Manual, CRS Common Manual System, and applicable Federal Aviation Regulations.
  • Ability and willingness to work, days, nights, weekends, and on-call during the scheduled duty period assigned.
  • Possess sound judgment and objectivity in critical decision-making situations.
  • Possess honesty, integrity, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and compliant aircraft.
