  • Performs  regular inspections or as required, testing and maintenance on systems including but not limited to fire alarm systems, wet, dry, pre-action and deluge sprinkler systems, emergency lighting, fire pumps, fire hoses, among other fire and life safety equipment and infrastructure as required by the NFPA.
  • Identifies,reports, and escalates deficiencies and code violations noted during inspection, testing and maintenance activities using work order management systems or other approved centralized inspection programs.
  • Conducts minor repairs of fire alarm systems, fire sprinkler systems, standpipes, clean agent systems and other fixed fire protection systems as required. 
  • Carries out component replacement, such as pull stations, smoke and heat detectors on systems including but not limited to fire alarm systems, gauges on fire sprinkler systems and standpipe risers and other fire protection systems.
  • Prepares and maintains reports and inspection records on fire and life safety equipment and systems.
  • Travels to properties,accessing equipment located throughout the entire building and site requiring use ofladders, lifts and platforms, entering confined spaces, working in mechanical, electrical and service rooms and other building spaces.
  • Monitors Fire Communications, and notifies building operations staff andbuilding tenants/occupants when shutdown of Fire Protection systems are required to facilitate repairs and/or replacement.
  • Arranges for repairs and/or alterations of the systems in conjunction with Supervisor and the Property management team.
  • Provides instruction to Building Maintenance on fire and life safety systems and operations.
  • Coordinates repairs between contractor, building occupants and tenants. Engages contractor, arranges for repairs to rectify hazards and inspects completed work, completes inspection report.

Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary education in Fire Protection Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Completion of a Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) certification or equivalent
  • Experience conducting inspection, testing and maintenance on fire and life safety systems including fire alarm (convention and addressable) and  fire sprinkler systems (all types)
  • Experience with industrial and commercial building construction
  • Experience building mechanical and electrical systems
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, and CMMS work order systems
  • Must possess a valid Province of Ontario Class G Drivers license
  • Knowledge of the Ontario Fire Code (OFC), Ontario Building Code (OBC), relevant National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards and the Underwriters Laboratories of Canada (ULC) standards, Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA) and other relevant legislation
  • Experience with basic hand and power tools
  • Must be able to read and understand blueprints, technical drawings and specifications
  • Knowledge of inspection standards including documentation requirements
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and organize work, while exercising sound judgement
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be capable to work and/or tolerate heights, dusty, noisy, odorous conditions and confined spaces
  • Must be available to work day, afternoon, night or weekend shifts, including overtime, standby and on call
  • Must wear all required safety equipment
