In Kansas City, Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies (FM&T) manages and operates the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administrations (NNSA) Kansas City National Security Campus. The Mechanical Engineer will coordinate with various teams and stakeholders to ensure the manufacturing of assigned products at the Kansas City National Security Campus. The engineer will develop expertise in drawing requirements, specialized processing, manufacturing techniques, and quality functions. They will lead and integrate cross-functional teams and communicate effectively to support the products life cycle.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs and coordinates design, development, evaluation, analysis, and/or quality control functions on advanced and complex engineering projects; and develops solutions to technical problems specifically assigned or as they arise by applying advanced mathematical, physical science, and engineering technologies.
  • Assesses process and equipment capabilities and establishes controls. 
  • Specifies, initiates, and coordinates acquisition of manufacturing resources and techniques.
  • Independently determines and develops approach to solutions.
  • Designs and/or develops new products/processes, special instruments, and unique equipment to meet specific requirements of customer orders.
  • Develops and assesses production or inspection operations and sequences, equipment , tooling gages, or acceptance equipment and processing methods required to manufacture or inspect complex components and assemblies.
  • Translates design agency concepts into production items by coordinating the activities of engineering, quality, manufacturing, and related organizations.
  • Estimates set-up times, operating times, and flowtimes, as well as production and acceptance needs.
  • Participates in establishing operating procedures on new products and components.
  • Compiles cost estimates and delivery quotations, monitors performance, and prepares reports, statistics, and recommendations for management review.
  • Plans and performs engineering testing and development programs and uses advanced statistical and scientific methods to address and resolve engineering and production problems and to assure product manufacturability.
  • Analyzes processes, products, and inspection records to anticipate, identify, and correct problems and to establish quality levels and trends.
  • Refines product definitions, based on knowledge of manufacturing capability, to assure that released designs can be produced.
  • Determines acceptability of products and materials in conjunction with desigign agency and other affected organizations.
  • Prepares evaluation reports, analyzes discrepancies, makes recommendations for and initiates the most cost effective improvements for product, test equipment, procedures, and manufacturing or operating processes that improve productivity and quality and reduce flowtime.
  • Provides project leadership and technical guidance on complex engineering projects.
  • May perform other duties as required.
     

You Must Have:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
  • 4+ years of progressive, applied experience in the engineering of products or processes or comparable technical activities, including the application of advanced engineering principles and technology related to highly complex technical assignments.   
  • US Citizenship needed to obtain and maintain the required US Dept of Energy "Q" level security clearance

Nice to Have:

  • Proficiency in applying advanced design, development, evaluation, production, and quality control techniques to highly complex Mechanical Engineering concepts and projects.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance, project management (including Primavera 6 and EVM), consultative services, and innovative solutions.
  • Existing DOE Q clearance is a plus.
  • Strong ability to work independently, make decisions, and take action with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated capability to manage multiple projects/assignments simultaneously in an organized and efficient manner.
  • Exemplary role model with exceptional leadership and conflict resolution skills, fostering trust, active listening, and effectively leading engineering project teams.
  • Familiarity with defense products, reservoirs, and/or gas transfer systems is advantageous.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively at various levels of the organization.
  • Proven track record of facilitating consensus, driving positive change, and successful negotiation.
  • Solid understanding of risk management techniques.
  • Six Sigma Green Belt, Black Belt, and/or Lean certification is desirable.
