Job Purpose:
Position responsible for inspecting forgings and castings for defects using Fluorescent Penetrant.

Duties and responsibilities:
• Operate non-destructive test equipment for inspecting of forgings and castings.
• Perform non-destructive testing to ascertain those forgings, castings, or materials meet specification, working to established procedures and / or process sheets.

o Magnetic Particle Inspection – Set up and operate magnaflux units for magnetic particle inspection. Prepare part for magnetization, induce current as prescribed, spray fluorescent suspension while current is on and visually inspect surface for defects, marking indications of defects for later evaluation. Demagnetize part after inspection.
o Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection – Process forgings through the preparation procedures and visually inspect with ultraviolet lamp for surface defects.
• Perform scheduled systems checks on equipment, comply with calibration programs, and ensure system is in compliance with specifications.
• Maintain logs and other records, indicating dates, methods, identification data, test results or other pertinent information.
• Pass required certification in non-destructive testing.
• Performs other related work and duties as required.

Knowledge and Training:
• Requires 1 ½ to 2 ½ years of on-the-job training and 40 hours of formal training course or equivalent.
• Working knowledge of shop math and have thorough understanding of layout procedures.
• Must be able to perform surface inspection on the most complex forgings.
• Must pass Military, NAVAIR, NAVSEA, and customer test requirements for certification in the following: Fluorescent Penetrant, and Magnetic Particle Inspection.
• Quality focused and strong attention to detail.
• Requires considerable judgment to set up and operate surface inspection equipment and to properly interpret and evaluate results.
• Requires making decisions on accepting forgings or castings in which this is the last quality control inspection for defects.
Physical requirements:
• Must be able to wear all required Personal Protective Equipment
• Must be able to lift 35lbs. when needed
• Constantly stand, walk, squat, and bending throughout the workday
• Good coordination to operate several controls simultaneously
• Frequent use of physical skills to operate a wide variety of machines & tools working to close tolerances
• Has use of electric cranes & hoists for lifting & moving forgings
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include near and far vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
• Frequently reach with hands and arms; use hands to manipulate, handle, or feel material
• Constant use hands/fingers to grasp, pinch, pull, feel, or handle and manipulate parts and tools
• Frequent repetitive motions
• Working conditions may include small spaces, dust, fumes/odors, and hot/cold temperatures, inside/outside noise, vibration, standing on concrete for long hours and wet or uneven surfaces.
• Constantly wear eye protection (Industry standard safety equipment is provided by the Company, and specific notice is posted in areas where safety equipment is required)

Additional Requirements:
• This position will train on first shift and will move to an off shift.
• Must be able to work holidays, weekends, and overtime as scheduled.
• Must be able to successfully pass the NDT assessment.
• Will be required to successfully complete and pass Level II certification exam within 8 months of the position.
• Must have completed 90-day introductory period.
• Must have been in current position for a minimum of six (6) months.
• Must be in good standing – no written or final level corrective actions.
