GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, inspects the surface condition of castings using specialized equipment and a liquid Penetrant, using predetermined inspection methods approved by Quality Assurance, to ensure conformance to customer requirements in accordance with quality standards. Ensures that documentation, tooling and parts are correctly matched to paperwork.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. NDT Trainee Penetrant Objective:
Assist the Level II in inspection of casting to ensure castings are defect free; conform to production guidelines and customer requirements by performing fluorescent penetrant inspection functions following established NDT inspection methods, conforming to specifications on technique cards.
Essential Job Functions:
• The ability to Certify and maintain certification to Level I in accordance with NAS 410 after training courses.
• Keep a log of all training and OJT required for certification.
• Follow established housekeeping and safety practices to maintain the quality of the work.
• The ability to work in an area with UV lighting and subdued white light.
• The ability to follow work instructions flowed down by the NDT level III.
• The ability to follow instructions from the level II in order to gain OJT towards certification.
• Demonstrate ability to log on main computer system, extract information, log time, enter inventory amount and forward to next operation.
• Develops techniques and works under approval from Quality Assurance.
• Completes all necessary records and develops logs and other records to assure compliance to specifications while under the direct observation.
• Reports discrepancies to management/penetrant Supervisor as required.
• Be familiar with all foundry operations.
• Demonstrate proper use of penetrant equipment.
• Demonstrate good working knowledge of all calibrations performed in penetrant.
• Be able to successfully take apart and put together equipment as needed for cleaning.
• Conducts daily/weekly/monthly calibration and systems checks.
• Moves castings into and out of penetrant inspection area.
• Completes any necessary paperwork and records as required. Maintains various logs and test records and timecard as required.
• Understands and can perform all tests and calibrations in the penetrant area.
• Know and understand the general plant and penetrant area safety rules and demonstrate compliance.
• Demonstrate an acceptable level of operator proficiency with acceptable accuracy. (Basket loading, developing, temperature control, washing time, etc.).
• The ability to work with others as part of the trainee function.

Qualifications:
• Experience and/or training are included in considerations.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing, read, follows and interprets instructions on technique cards, code sheets as well as other verbal or written instructions.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Physical ability to perform the essential job functions.
